COLUMBUS No. 8 seed Green stopped No. 2 seed Gahanna Lincoln in a three-game Baker System series during the title match to top the girls division of the Ohio High School Bowling State Kick-Off Tournament on Saturday at HP Lanes.
Green had games of 148, 164 and 176 in the title match fpr 448 to stop Lincoln (434).
The Bulldogs opened match play with a 541-408 win over No. 9 seed Wapakoneta, and followed with a 562-465 win over top-seeded Ashland to reach the finals.
Elena Hughes led the Bulldogs with a 569 series during qualifying, followed by Veda Hughes’ 552 and 534 from Marissa Perrine.
Perry also reached the 16-team championship round in the 21-team field. The 11th-seeded Panthers topped No. 6 seed Kettering Fairmont 553-424 in their opening match before falling to No. 3 Boardman 486-441 in the second round. Perry finished seventh overall.
Alexis Carper led the Panthers with a 558 series and Ami King added 502.
In the boys division, No. 3 seed Westerville Central topped Nordonia 537-463 to claim the title.
Perry missed the cut to the championship round by 35 pins, finishing 17th in the 25-team field. Kaleb Corrin led the Panthers with a 530 series.
Individually, Troy’s Bryce Massingill (728) and Ashland’s Makayla Dreibeibis (627) took top honors. Massingill won the title due to rolling the higher game (290) after a tie with St. Marys Memorial’s Cayden Ballweg.
Price wins College Bowl event
PERRY TWP. No 7 seed John Price topped No. 8 seed John Shreve 206-167 to claim the win during Saturday’s College Bowl Tournaments singles event at AMF Hall of Fame Lanes.
Price defeated Travis Hardesty (209-205) and Andy Lillo (260-200) to reach the title match. Shreve stopped No. 1 seed Brian Ball (223-222) and John Randolph (237-234) to advance.
First place was worth $400 in the 30-player field.
Ball led the four-game qualifier with 1,102 total pinfall, 128 pins ahead of Hardesty. Price had the tourney’s high game of 290.
