Fach, Haggitt take regional title

CUYAHOGA FALLS — Ohioans Graham Fach and Michael Haggitt, seeded eighth entering the championship round, captured the title during Sunday’s PBA/PBA50 Doubles/Clutch Lanes Central Open at Clutch Lanes.

Fach and Haggitt compiled a 14-4 record during the Baker System match play, stopping Thomas Larsen and Brad Angelo 4-1 in the title match.

The top four seeds into the match-play round received first-round byes. The format was best-of-seven Baker System style matches.

Larsen and Angelo, who shot a 300 Baker game during match play, finished with a 12-8 record overall after being seeded 10th.

No. 1 seeded Ronnie Russell and Dave Wodka were eliminated in the second round by Fach and Haggitt, losing 4-1.

The teams of Tom Hess-Sean Rash and Kerry Smith-Ryan Shafer, the lone male-female team in the field, finished third and fourth, respectively, after falling during the semifinals. Hess and Rash, the No. 4 seed, had a 5-4 record after falling to Fach and Haggitt; Smith and Shafer went 9-8 from the 11th-seeded slot, falling to Larsen and Angelo.

Another Ohio pair, Vincent Bellar and John Shreve Jr., finished 11th after falling 4-1 in their opening-round match to Fach and Haggitt.
