FINDLAY — No. 2 qualifier Jean Perez compiled a 5-3 record during match play while averaging a tournament-high 216.56 to capture his first PBA regional title during Saturday’s PBA Bowlero Findlay Central Open at AMF Sportsman Lanes.
Perez, a native of Puerto Rico who trailed leader Justin Knowles by 12 pins entering the final position round, defeated Knowles 233-223 to capture the title. Perez won $2,700.
This was a one-day event for PBA members only, with the 57-player field bowling eight qualifying games before the field was cut to the top 12 for round-robin match play.
Perez finished with 3,615 total pinfall, 28 pins ahead of Okemos, Mich., resident Knowles, who won $1,425.
Macomb, Mich., resident Michael Jachcinski finished third with 3,558, followed by last week’s regional winner Graham Fach of Urbana in fourth with 3,524.
Parma’s Patrick Dombrowski finished 17th (1,520), Northfield’s Ryan Liederbach was 19th (1,505) and Doylestown’s Joe Bailey was 26th (1,467).
Regional players will return to action May 7 with the PBA Mahoning County Convention & Visitors Bureau-Boardman Printing Central Open at Amron Lanes in Canfield.
