CANTON — The team of Shane Minger and Kevin Allman, Donnie Bugara, Tiffany Schmitt and Brady S. Forrester captured event titles during the Stark County USBC 101st annual Open City Tournament which concluded play Friday at Eastbury Bowling Center.
In addition to the 95 teams that entered that event, the tourney drew 185 doubles teams and 368 singles players during its two-week run.
In doubles, Minger and Allman combined for 1,592 total pinfall, 64 pins ahead of second-place John Price and Rick Parschen of Amherst. Minger and Allman, a Canton duo, shots 669 and 640 actual, respectively, and added 283 pins of handicap for their total.
The event cashed 18 teams, with low to cash being 1,436.
In singles, Bugara, an Alliance senior right-hander, finished with a 786 series to capture the title by just seven pins over Canton’s Dennis Welty, (779) who shot 299 during the event. Bugara shot 705 actual and added 81 pins handicap for his total.
Massillon’s Brandon Arnold, who shot the lone 300 during the doubles event, finished third with 774.
In handicap all-events, Canton’s Schmitt rolled 669 in team event, 722 in doubles and 714 in singles en route to 2,234, including 129 pins of handicap, to claim the title. She finished 25 pins ahead of Canton’s Travis Secrest.
In scratch all-events, Canton right-hander Forrester rolled 811 during doubles and added 779 in team event and 714 in singles en route to 2,254 to finish 11 pins ahead of Paul Sanko III, who rolled 300-822 during the team event.
Low to cash in handicap all-events was 2,081; scratch all events was 2,115. Singles low to cash was the 36th spot with 723.
Other top scores in singles came from Justin McIlvan with 300 and TJ Owens with 298.
