CINCINNATI — Wooster High School sophomore Abbie Leiendecker won her division while Lake freshman Zachary Abbott finished second during the JTBA Cincinnati Youth Open on Sunday at Western Bowl Strike & Spare.
Leiendecker was the top seed in the girls U18 division with 1,039 total pinfall over the five-game qualifier, finishing 119 pins ahead of the runner-up Delaney Rossette.
Leinendecker first topped Mikaili Truman 378-361 in her opening match before stopping No. 3 seed Madison Strouse 407-346 to claim the title and a $410 scholarship.
Green senior Veda Hughes finished in a tie for fifth at 849, missing the cut to match play by 13 pins.
In the boys U15 division, Abbott was the No. 6 seed with 934 as Aidan Furukawa was No. 1 with 1,057, 37 pins ahead of Tuslaw sophomore Cameron Kilgore (1,024).
Abbott (188-193) defeated Landon Dreibelbis (186-158) in his quarterfinal two-game cumulative match before stopping Jackson Neubauer 404-341 in the semifinals. Furukawa (191-195) then stopped Abbott (173-186) to claim the title and a $480 scholarship while Abbott received $300.
Kilgore (146-178) dropped his opening match to Neubauer (177-162) to finish fifth. Wooster’s Aaron Meshew, the No. 5 seed with 936, won his opening match against Luke Rhine 402-385) before falling to Furukawa 451-426 in the semifinals to finish fourth overall.
In the girls U15 division, Triway’s Emma Yoder (sixth, 840) and Green’s Elena Hughes (9th, 815) missed the cut for match play.
Other overall champions included No. 7 seed Carter Street in the boys U18 division; No. 2 seed Allison Taylor in the girls 15U division; No. 3 seed Cooper Crouch in the boys U12 division; and top-seeded Gracie Duane in the girls U12 division.
The final JTBA event will be the 42nd Henson Bowling Academy Championships, set for May 28-29.

AKRON SWEEPER DOUBLES SET
AKRON — The Mac’s Cabana No. 9 Scratch Doubles Sweeper is set for 4 p.m. May 22 at Spins Bowl Akron.
Entry fee is $100 per team, with bowlers rolling four qualifying games before the field is cut to the top four for single-game match-play elimination rounds.

HALL OF FAME SUMMER SERIES SET
PERRY TWP. — The first practice session for the inaugural Hall of Fame Summer Series Tournament No. 1 will be from 7 to 10 p.m. May 24 at AMF Hall of Fame Lanes.
The oil pattern will be the 2021 USBC Open Championship Doubles and Singles pattern. Cost will be $2.99 per game per person.
The first event is at 6:15 p.m. May 26 at Hall of Fame in the six-tourney series on challenging oil patterns. Bowlers will roll four qualifying games before the field is cut to the top five for the stepladder finals. Entry fee is $40.
