Wednesday feature: Corrin ties career high with 826 at Eastbury

CANTON — While Jason Corrin was rolling along during the Saturday Night Mixed league at Eastbury Bowling Center, he never imagined where it might take him.

“I had a couple of people come up to me when it was over and tell me that easily could have been 900 the way I threw the ball,” the 43-year-old Massillon left-hander said.

“That really kind of threw me. I knew I was in the hole all night, but wow.”

Instead, Corrin ended up tying his career high with 826 on games of 279, 279 and 268 for his 10th career 800 series and third in 14 months. He also owns 15 career 300 games.

“To tell you the truth, it’s 10 more 800s than I thought I would ever get,” said Corrin, a licensed optician and manager at Vision Center’s location inside the Walmart in North Canton.

“I think I wanted that more than another 300 game. I love these way more because it’s so much more of a complete night, and I enjoy that.”

To say Corrin was “in the hole” all night is an understatement. His only misses were a solid 8-pin in the 10th frame of Game 1; a 7-pin in the sixth frame of Game 2; and another 8-pin in the fourth frame of Game 3 along with a 7-pin on his second ball in the 10th frame.

“The only disappointment is that I told someone on my team last year that I was going to shoot 300 next year and maybe multiple ones,” Corrin said. “But they were here for this, and that makes me happy.”

Corrin used a Roto Grip Hyped Solid for his latest milestone and made no moves the entire night, using a line of 15 (board) to seven.

“I was looking for something to replace my Attitude, and I wanted a nice, smooth solid, and it works,” said Corrin, who has had the ball for about a month.

“The way I was hitting the pocket, I was getting worried that the ball was going to start biting, but it never did. I kept waiting for that 6-pin, but it never happened.”

To say this has been the best season of Corrin’s bowling career is an understatement, despite taking the summer off. Corrin bowls in three leagues with averages ranging from 221 to 237 between Park Centre and Eastbury.

“I’m not a big fan of summer bowling. The last time I did was a couple of years ago and I felt exhausted by Week 8 heading into winter. I just felt like I hadn’t done anything else,” Corrin said. “I’m one of those guys who enjoys the soreness in my arm the next day after the first night. It tells me the season is here.”

And what a season it has been.

“I’ve just been amazed by this. I’ve been hovering around 229-230 in average the several years and this is way past anything I ever thought I could do,” Corrin said. “I just don’t know why everything is falling the way it is.”
