CUYAHOGA FALLS — Bryce Oliver, a Cuyahoga Falls two-handed left-hander, topped the field during the 25th annual Holiday Scratch Classic at Clutch Lanes and Sports Center recently.
Oliver, top seeded after four qualifying games with 1,004 total pinfall (including a 299 in Game 3), defeated Joseph Justinger 245-176 in the title match to claim the $1,000 top prize in the 69-player field.
Oliver defeated Vincent Ludwig (211-198), Howard Moore (258-200) and Mark Hupley (238-230) during single-game match play en route to the win.
Bowlers rolled four qualifying games until the field was cut to the top 16 for single-game match play by seed.
Ludwig was the qualifying cut with 913, just two pins ahead of Kyle Brooks (911) and three ahead of Joe Gugliotta (910).

OHIO MATCHPLAY
COLUMBUS — Team Kretzer — consisting of Brian Kretzer, JT Cherpeski and Brendan Salo — took first place in the Ohio Matchplay Tournaments’ second annual Wayne Webb’s Green Machine Junior-Junior-Senior Trio event on Saturday at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.
The Kretzer team topped Team Watson — Bill Watson, Rick McCormick and Nolan White — 677-592 to claim the win in the 37-team event, which consisted on one player aged 50 or older and two under age 50.
Dan Higgins turned in the high game for the juniors of 298 while Brandon Novak had the high four-game qualifying series of 989. Wayne Webb posted the high senior game of 277 and high series of 904. Kretzer and Cherpeski have each won three OMT events.
The cut after qualifying was at 2,545 for four games, with Frank Testa, Tyler Meredith and Dean Billings gaining the final spot. Team Kretzer was the qualifying leader with 2,693.

HIT DEM POCKETS: Hit Dem Pockets will hold its ninth annual MLK Tournament Jan. 13, 14 and 15 at AMF Riviera Lanes in Fairlawn. There are four shifts set each day for the handicap event, which will include singles and doubles. Entry fees are $45 for singles, $90 per team for doubles and mixed doubles, with a $10 bonus for senior, ladies and scratch singles. First place will pay $1,000 for handicap singles, and $2,000 each for handicap open and mixed doubles, based on 100 entries per event. For information, go to the group’s Facebook page at:
