NORTH CANTON — North Canton Hoover High School seniors Chase Wensel and Manny Doefler became the first teammates to throw 300 games during the same match in the 23-year history of the Stark County High School Bowling Conference on Tuesday at Park Centre Lanes.
Doerfler came first on Lanes 5-6 with his 300 during a 2,984-2,568 win over Jackson. Then Wensel, bowling on lanes 9-10, had his 300. They were the second and third 300s thrown by Hoover players this season, with senior Connor Lab also throwing one earlier at Park Centre.
The 300s marked the 13th and 14th in school history.
Wensel finished with a 516 series while Doerfler had 462. The team shot 2,155 for its two games as Lab also had 436.
Senior Donivin Gillono led Jackson with a 438 series.
It marked the second time this season that two 300 games were shot the same day in the conference, with Canton South’s Trevor Gore joining Lab on Dec. 20 at AMF Hall of Fame Lanes. Another 300 was shot by Massillon’s Nico Fromholtz at Eastbury Bowling Center in December, giving the conference five this season.
The most 300 games thrown in one season in conference history was seven during the 2014-15 season, including one by a girl (Wooster’s Courtney Peck).
HEROLD SETS MARK
United Local sophomore Brooklyn Herold set school girls records for game (257) and series (437) during Monday’s 2,146-1,628 victory over Crestview at Forest Lanes.
Herold broke the records held by her sister, Dorothy, who had a 235 game and 426 series during the 2020-21 season. Dorothy now bowls at Walsh University.
