MACEDONIA — The team of Dean Vargo and Steve Hlabse took first place in an 18-team field at Hit Dem Pockets returned with a handicap doubles event Sunday at North Woods Lanes.
The format was five games with no stepladder, but there was a bonus round for the teams that finished first in each individual game.
Vargo and Hlabse also topped four of the five games, but in a rolloff against Game 3 winner Vicktor Varner and Ryan Liederbach, ,the latter gained the win by 12 pins.
Vargo shot 1,287 scratch in the event (257.4 average) and Hlabse had 1,268 (253.6) to top the field overall.
Varner and Liederbach finished second, followed by D.J. Assaff and Vincent Bellar.
The next HDP event is the Holiday Cash Tournament, et for Nov. 23-24 at Roseland Lanes in Oakwood. Entry fee is $60 per player, with main events in handicap and scratch doubles and bonus events in handicap,, scratch, ladies and senior singles. There is a $40 cross-play and $10 bonus event fees.

OHIO MATCHPLAY TOURNAMENTS
Charles “Butch” Ferrell topped a 31-player field to claim the Ohio Matchplay Tournaments’ fourth anniversay/Veteran’s Day Event at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl in Columbus.
Ferrell, a first-time OMT winner, defeated Doug Followell 225-211 to claim the title and the $1,000 top prize.
Ferrell was the No. 1 qualifier, averaging 252.4 for the five-game qualifier and finishing 86 pins ahead of Followell.
Tom Siler was the cut for the top eight for match play at 1,110, just one pin ahead of Steve Kenyon. The tourney was bowled on a modified house oil pattern.

The next OMT event will be its first 40-and-older Classic, see for 1 p.m. Nov. 23 at Columbus Square Bowling Palace in Columbus. Entry fee will be $100.

HILES BAKER DOUBLES: Defending champion Adam Barta had a new partner in Ryan Liederbach to capture the fourth annual Baker Doubles event by Hiles Bowling Tournaments at Spins Bowl Pittsburgh.
THANKSGIVING EVENTS
There are several area tournaments scheduled for around Thanksgiving. Here are ones that we have been made aware of:

UPCOMING EVENTS
NAGLE RETURNS The annual Ted Nagle Memorial Tournament is set for 10 a.m. Dec. 15 at Christoper Columbus Lanes in Alliance. Entry fee is $65, with bowlers rolling six qualifying games before cutting to the top five for the stepladder finals. The top 15 bowlers will cash, based on 48 entries. OHIO STATE USBC: Tournament sites have been established for the 2025 Ohio State USBC Open, Women’s and Youth tournaments. The Ohio State USBC Open tournament will be weekends from Feb. 15 through May 4 in Summit County. The team event will be at AMF Riviera Lanes while the doubles and singles will be at Station 300 (formerly Stonehedge). The women’s championships will be weekends from March 22 through April 13 in Stark County, with the team event at Eastbury Bowling Center and singles and doubles at AMF Hall of Fame Lanes. The youth championships will be held April 5-6 and 12-13 at Wabash Lanes in New Philadelphia. Entry forms for all events are available on-line at:
