H.S. bowling: Kenton Ridge, Fairmont top Kickoff event; Jackson, Louisville JVs lead Conotton Valley field; SCHSBC statistics

COLUMBUS — Springfield Kenton Ridge and Kettering Fairmont brought home titles during Saturday’s 21st annual Ohio High School State Invitational Kickoff tournament at HP Lanes.

The field included only teams that participated in the 2024 state tournament, placed first through eighth in either sectional or district play or finished in the top five of their conference.

The format was three regular games and two Baker System games during qualifying, with the top 16 teams then advancing to three-game Baker matches by seed, with teams advancing based on cumulative totals.

There were 28 boys and 20 girls teams participating.

In the boys division, third-seeded Kenton Ridge defeated No. 4 Boardman 649-572 in the title match. Ashland, the No. 1 seed with 3,460 total pinfall, stopped Twinsburg in the first round before falling to No. 9 seed Wapakoneta 658-625 in the quarterfinals.

Cincinnati Elder’s Jayden Brown was the top individual with 758, followed by Kenton Ridge’s Logan Duncan with 706 and Fairmont’s Brenden Staton with 704. The top eight players were named to the all-tournament team.

Among area teams, Perry made the cut as the No. 15 seed, but fell to No. 2 Cleveland St. Ignatius 590-583 in its opening match.

In the girls division, No. 2 seed Fairmont topped No. 5 seed Rocky River Magnificat 540-492 in the title match. Defending state champion Boardman was the No. 1 seed with 3,080.

The Spartans fell in the quarterfinals to No. 8 seed Perry 605-432. The Panthers were eliminated by Magnificat 595-538 in the semifinals.

Magnificat’s Dot Sayles was the top girls individual with 664, followed by Fairmont’s Danica Roseberry with 662. Boardman placed two players on the all-tournament tam with Marissa Funk (637) and Kaitlyn Greenaway (629) gaining honors.

The Division II version of the Kickoff tournament is set for Dec. 7 at HP Lanes.

CONOTTON VALLEY JV

BOWERSTON — Jackson’s boys and Louisville’s girls earned titles during the Conotton Valley Rockets Junior Varsity tournament Saturday at the Rocket Center.

The girls division featured six teams, with seven teams participating in the boys event.

Louisville captured the combined team overall trophy with 5,574 total pinfall.

The Leopards finished with 2,417, with Perry taking second with 2,307 in the girls division.

Louisville’s Amanda Dejacimo was the high individual with 436.

In the boys division, Jackson finished with 3,198, followed by Louisville with 3,157.

Jackson’s Tyson Gamble and East Canton’s Colton Stanojevic tied for individual honors with 498, with Gamble being given the No. 1 spot based on a high-game tiebreaker (190).
