From wire reports
BATON ROUGE, La. — The first use of a “hammerhead”-style and a new oil — Kegel Glide — were noteworthy as the lane patterns were revealed with the end of the 2025 USBC Open Championships at Raising Cane’s River Center
USBC lane pattern designer and Canton GlenOak High School graduate Nick Hoagland has made hammerheads — segments of 2-2 oil down lane also commonly called “speed bumps” — fairly common in his patterns.
The team event produced some of the lowest team scores of the modern era.
The use of the Kegel Glide oil — as of yet unreleased to centers — has drawn some curiosity, according to reports.
Kegel CEO Chris Chartrand provided some information to https://www.11thframe about the new addition for the company.
“Curve is our No. 1 selling product domestically and while Curve works very well on a variety of surfaces, it really shines on lower friction to medium friction surfaces,” Chartrand said in the report. “With Glide, we were looking for a product that would act similar to Curve from a transition perspective, but would shine more on medium to higher friction surfaces. We were also focused on a product we could use in tournaments since we haven’t come out with a conditioner really conducive to tournament play in quite some time. Glide has showed in testing to deliver excellent durability, which is a prominent theme of feedback we’ve heard in use thus far.”
Glide will be available worldwide later this year, Chartrand said.
Doug Dukes, the company’s vice president of sales, also answered questions in an email exchange with The https://www.11thframe
Dukes said he didn’t feel Glide was a factor in the scoring pace of the Open Championships, where the focus was on the low scores in team event.
“The surface was brand new, the pattern was difficult, and there are an unlimited number of other factors that can contribute to scoring pace, the first two being the strongest,” Dukes wrote. “Glide at the time the first ball is thrown is not much different than other conditioners in our lineup. It’s how it reacts later in a block that sets it apart and makes it shine.”
