Bowling notebook: Stark USBC announces 2024-25 honorees, holds golf outing; Stark H.S. conference sets alumni event

CANTON — The Stark County USBC recently revealed its honor roll and league award winner for the 2024-25 bowling season.

As the 2025-26 fall-winter season begins, there were 20 bowlers in Stark association leagues that averaged between 230 and 233, with three players at 240 or higher.

Among the women, there were 13 who averaged 200 or higher.

High average award on the male side went to Alex McCourry at 248, followed by Brian Ball with 244 and Zachary McCutchan with 240.

Fore the women, Jossett Patrick had the high average with 225, followed by Renae Shafer at 217 and Taylor Devaul and Bonny Reed Bell at 216 each.

Ball turned in the high association series with 84, followed by Jason Corrin with 845 and McCourry at 843.

Devaul posted the lone 800 for women last season with 826, followed by Deanna Gouge with 792 and Sarah Edwards with 751.

In addition, league awards were presented from leagues that chose to take part, with awards given for top games and series.

The Stark County USBC board says it is currently working on updating its award program tor the new season.

GOLF OUTING IS SUNDAY

CANTON — The Stark County USBC still is looking for teams for its second annual golf fundraiser, set for 9 a.m. Sept. 7 at Meadowlake Golf and Swim Club.

Entry fee is $320 per team, which includes prizes, lunch and dinner. There also will be raffles available, with a shotgun start for the four-person shotgun start.

ALUMNI TOURNEY RETURNS

CANTON — The Stark County High School Bowling Conference again will be holding its annual alumni tournament at 9 a.m. Oct. 19 at a new site — Eastbury Bowling Center.

Entry fee is $200 per team, with five-person teams bowling 12 Baker System games before the field is cut to the top eight teams for best three-of-five match play by seed. Match play continues until a champion is crowned.

The field is limited to 20 teams and is open to adult bowlers only. Each team member must represent the same high school, and must have either bowled for, coached or attended that school. If a bowler grew up out of state, he or she may bowl for the team from the school district in which he or she resides.
