Tourney report: HDP Queens this week; CBT series opens; OMT event canceled

MACEDONIA — There are 40 in the field as of Wednesday for the third Hit Dem Pockets Queens tournament, set for 10 a.m. Sept. 20 (Saturday) at North Woods Lanes.

Melissa Voytko is the defending champion with this year’s event having a new format — reduced to a one-day event.

Entry fee is $125, with first place paying $2,000. Bowlers will roll eight qualifying games.

The field then will be cut to the top 12 for a single-game match play cashers’ round based on seeds. Those winners will then bowl another round of one-game match play to determine the top three for the stepladder finals. The format is based off a field of 48 players.

The oil pattern will be the 2024 PWBA Cleveland Regional oil pattern.

HDP SENIORS, LADIES

Hit Dem Pockets held a Ladies Only & Seniors (55-and-older) tournament Sept 13 at North Woods with 20 seniors and 40 ladies in the field at North Woods Lanes on a house oil pattern.

Amanda Morrow highlighted the women’s division by rolling an 803 series on Ames os 268, 257 and 278 during her opening three games scratch during the handicapped event.

Ciara Ridgeway took second (796), followed by Nikki Stitler (788), with Jen Higgins earning the final cash spot with 749.

In the seniors division, Tony Patrick led the way in the handicapped event with 803, followed by Shawn Fields (782) and John Rembert III (763).

COLLEGE BOWL TOURNAMENTS: The seventh College Bowl Tournaments series season kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday with a singles event at Park Centre Lanes in North Canton. Entry fee is $65 with bowlers rolling four qualifying games before the field is cut to the top eight for single-game elimination match play until a champion is determined. This is a scratch event on a house oil pattern. PBA50 bowlers with no national titles are the only professionals permitted to participate. Additional cash spots will be determined by the amount of players in the field. One-out-of 3.5 bowlers will cash. MIDWEST SCRATCH BOWLING SERIES: The Midwest Scratch Bowling Series is holding the Free Lineage Akron House Shot Baker Doubles at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 27 at Station 300 in Akron. Teams will bowl eight Baker System qualifying games before the cut to the top 16 for two-game Baker match-play rounds until a champion is determined. Entry fee is $140 per team. SINGLES ELIMINATOR: Jody Boyd and James Dalton Hiles are teaming up for the $1,000 Singles Eliminator event, with the date being changed from the original one due to a conflict with an Ohio State football home game. The new date is 1 p.m. Oct. 25 at Sequoia Pro Bowl in Columbus. Entry fee is $80 on a house oil pattern, with as maximum field of 120. Bowlers will bowl either four or five games (to be announced) before the field is cut to the top 24 for eliminator rounds, with the top eight receiving a first-round bye. For information, go to:

HILES TOURNAMENTS: Limited openings remain for the Castaway Trio Baker Classic at 10 a.m. Oct. 19 at Eastway Lanes in Erie, Pa. Entry fee is $300 per team, with teams bowling 18 Baker games before the field is cut to the top five for the stepladder finals. OHIO MATCHPLAY: The Ohio Matchplay Tournaments fourth anniversary Season Kickoff, originally scheduled for Sept. 20 (Saturday) at Sequoia Pro Bowl in Columbus, has been canceled due to a lack of interest, according to tournament directors. The remainder of the OMT schedule is listed below:

H.S. ALUMNI TOURNAMENT: The Stark County High School Bowling Conference will hold its annual Alumni Tournament at 9 a.m. Oct. 19 at Eastbury Bowling Center in Canton. Cost is $200 per team, with teams bowling 12 Baker System games before a cut to the top egiht for match play. Eligibility results and rules can be found on the entry blank below:

PBA REGIONALS

CENTRAL REGION: Park Centre Lanes in North Canton again will be sponsoring the PBA50-60 Park Centre Lanes Central Doubles Open on Oct. 18 and 19 at the center. In conjunction with the event, the Fred Smith- Dick Behra Pro-Am will be held at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 17. Players will have the opportunity to bowl three games of 9-pin, no-tap with three different pros. This is a handicapped event. Entry fee is $30 per players,, and it is open to high school, collegiate, adult, seniors (ages 50 and older) and special needs players.
