CHILLICOTHE — Hillsboro swept both the boys and girls titles to claim the lone state berth in both divisions during Wednesday’s OHSAA East-Southeast Division I bowling tournament at Shawnee Lanes.
In the boys division, the Indians finished with 4,014 total pitfalls, leading a 12-team field with 1,194 in Baker System games (199 average). Carrollton, which led after the opening three team games by nine pins over Hillsboro (2,829-2,820), finished second with 3,928. The Warriors had 1,099 during the six Baker games.
Only one team and one individual from each division qualified for the OHSAA Division I championships, set for March 6 (boys() and 7 (girls) at HP Lanes in Columbus.
New Philadelphia finished third overall in the boys division with 3,854.
Hillsboro senior Camden Lively topped the individual field with a 719 series, starting the day with 279 and 280 — the highest games of the day.
Tri-Valley sophomore Cale Preston earned the lone individual berth with a 692 series. Carrollton senior Jace Eckinger finished fourth overall with 620.
In the girls division, Hillsboro finished with 3,469 to finish ahead of Miami Trace (3,329) by 140 pins and claim the team berth.
Indians sophomore Rylie Ison topped the girls field with 584. Unioto senior Elise Schobelock earned the individual state berth by finishing second with 566. Dover senior Kaitlin Yoder was seventh overall with 516.
