Bowling notes: NCAA in Cleveland; King, Graham claim USBC wins; PBA50 pros in Wooster

PARMA HEIGHTS — Yorktown Lanes is playing host to the NCAA National Collegiate Women’s Bowling Championship on Friday and Saturday.

The final four teams involved in the event include:

  • No. 1 seed — Jacksonville State (2024 champion, 2025 runner-up, with Triway High School graduate Emma Yoder and Wooster graduate Abbie Leiendecker on the roster)
  • No. 2 seed — Vanderbilt (2023 champion, seeking its fourth title)
  • No. 3 seed — Arkansas State (three title match appearances since 2021)
  • No. 4 seed — Wichita State (returning to Final Four after its 2025 debut)

The event features a best-of-seven Baker System match play format to determine the national champion.

Semifinals begin at 9 a.m. Friday with Jacksonville State vs. Wichita State and Vanderbilt taking on Arkansas State. Winners will then face off at 3 p.m. along with losing teams.

The finals are then set for Saturday, with the final match set for 9 a.m. and the title match set for 6:30 p.m. (broadcast live on ESPNU). All matches are also available via the ESPN App and the NCAA streaming hub.

KING EARNS FOURTH CLEVELAND TITLE

OAKWOOD VILLAGE — Cleveland’s Michael King earned his fourth title Saturday during the Cleveland USBC’s Bernie Vozar Masters at Roseland Lanes.

King, who last won the title in 2024, who came from the No. 4 seed to defeat top-seeded Brandan Tahsler 235-225, also won the event in 2004 and 2013.

King also defeated Brandon White (214-158) and James Downing (258-200) to reach the title match.

The format was eight qualifying games, with the field then being cut to the top 16 players advancing double-elimination match play by seed. Zach Smeal earned the final cut spot with 1,533 (191.62 average) while John Boyd III was the qualifying leader with 1,702 (212.75).

Carly Graham also emerged as the champion in the Jacqueline Kirk-Terrell Queens event for the third time (2011,, 2017), held simultaneously with the Masters event.

Graham defeated Robin McQuaid 208-180 to claim the win from the top-seeded spot.

Olivia Clark was the qualifying leader with 1,260 (210 average) through six games in the women’s division, which had 29 entries. The field was cut to the top eight for bracketed match play, with McQuaid earning the final spot with 1,140 (190 average).

PBA50 IN WOOSTER

WOOSTER — Ballerz Sports Club will be hosing the Dilly’s Pro Shop/Ballerz Sports Club Central Open one-day event beginning at 9 a.m. April 11.

A field of 40 players will bowl seven qualifying games before the field is cut to the top 12 for bracket match play, with the top four receiving a first-round bye. Subsequent rounds will be best of three matches until the final four and two will be one-game matches to determine the winner.

Admission is free for this event.
