CANTON — High scores were the order of the week as the Stark County USBC brought down the curtain on its 105th annual Open and 93rd Women’s championships at AMF Hall of Fame Lanes by releasing unofficial results.
The Open tournament completed play Friday with nine 800 series and six 300 games after four 300 games were thrown during the team event held the previous week.
Northfield two-handed left-hander Ryan Liedervach claimed the scratch all-events title with 2,314 total pinfall, followed by the father-son duo of Stark County High School Bowling Hall of Fame enshrinees Roger Webb (2,272) and Adam Webb (2,243)
Canton’s Hunter Fairchild topped the handicap all-events field with 2,239, followed by Louisville’s Ryan Liolios (2,236) and Massillon’s Frank Testa (2,216). Recent Walsh University graduate Rachel Young, a GlenOak High School graduate, was the lone woman to cash in Open all-events, taking seventh in the handicap division (2,132).
Liederbach teamed with Kent’s Joe Hostetler to top handicap doubles with 1,560, finishing just 18 pins ahead of the Webbs (1,542), with Marco Godoy and Austin Burwell taking third (1,535).
In singles, Canton’s Ryan Leasure topped the field with 814, followed by Willie Kolbs (811) and Max Shankle (809).
Ryan Trowbridge turned in the top series overall with 816 in doubles. He was followed by Hostetler (815), Roger Webb and Zachary Abbott (811), Camron Little (807), Liederbach (805), Lewis Stansbury (803), Derrick Simon (803) and Steven Mowls (802). All but Mowls shot their milestone series during doubles; Mowls’ came in singles. Roger Webb (59) was the lone senior player to hit the milestone.
Also shooting 300 games last week in doubles and singles during the Open were Trowbridge, Michael Leggett, Mowls (who had a pair of 300s) and Bartley Garnes. Jonny Marchand, Simon, Adam Webb and Cooper Smith had 300s during the team event. Shankle (52) was the lone senior to hit that milestone during the event.
WOMEN’S TOURNEY
In the Women’s tournament, Paris’ Kara Kutz, a SCHSBC Hall of Famer, topped all-events scratch with 1,979, finishing 66 pins ahead of Uniontown’s Tiffany Schmitt (1,913), with Massillon’s Mandi Testa taking third (1,861).
Massillon’s Peggy Chovan was high in handicapped all-events with 2,029, finishing 50 pins ahead of Kutz, who bowled scratch, with Massillon’s Tammy Blaker taking third (1,967).
Chosen also was the handicapped singles champion with 800, followed by New Franklin’s Barbara Vimont (689) and Kutz (685).
The team of Vimont and Jessica Mayo won the doubles crown with 1,423, followed by Chovan and Blaker (1,372) and Amanda Wyant-Davis and Mary Sample (1,329) of Uniontown.
Sample, a senior player, turned in the high women’s series with 696, followed by Kutz (685) and Tina Peters (680).
USBC SETS ANNUAL MEETING
CANTON — The Stark County USBC will hold its annual meeting at 7 p.m. May 27 at The Event at Meadowlake.
The agenda includes election of a president, three directors and delegates to the state and national conventions; the announcement of college scholarship winners; and the presenting of tournament checks and awards.
