Bowling briefs: Carrollton girls win Tusc title

Beaver, Carrollton win Classic titles

DOVER — The Beaver Local boys and Carrollton girls captured titles during Saturday’s Tuscarawas County Classic at Wabash Lanes.

Beaver Local took the boys title with a victory over East Liverpool in the best-of-five Baker System match-play finals.

The Beavers, the No. 4 seed entering the four-team championship round in the eight-team field, were led by Kyle Haustman’s 697 series during qualifying. Aiden Pilarcik added 608.

The Potters were led by Gavin Maze’s 688 series and Tyler Bryan’s 644.

Minerva, the second seed, fell to East Liverpool 3-1 during the semifinal round. Ahdyn Lautzenheiser, who capture the individual boys title, led the Lions with 722, and Isaac Wisenbarger added 586.

Carrollton, the No. 1 seed with 3,868 total pinfall — 42 pins ahead of Minerva — was beaten by Beaver Local 3-2 in the semifinals. Ian Pallaye led the Warriors with a 643 series, followed by Cole Peoples (613) and Eric Brackin (597) as Carrollton had three players finish in the top 10.

In the girls division, No. 1-seeded Carrollton captured the title by stopping Tuscarawas Central Catholic 3-1 in the finals. The Warriors topped No. 4 seed Minerva 3-0 in the semifinals.

Tara Oberlin led the top-seeded Warriors with 588 during qualifying, Carrollton finished with 3,336 total pinfall, 54 pins ahead of River View.

Minerva was led during qualifying by Skye Davis’ 494 and Lydia Sanor’s 465.

East Liverpool’s Delaney Riggle was the individual champion with 649.

Triway, Mechanicsburg top Division II II Kickoff

COLUMBUS — The Triway girls and Mechanicsburg boys captured titles during the 18th annual Ohio High School State Division II Kickoff Tournament on Saturday at HP Lanes.

Triway, the No. 6 seed entering the 16-team championship round, stopped Kettering Alter 455-448 in a three-game Baker System title match to claim the title. Triway rolled 154 in the final game to Alter’s 137.

Earlier, the Titans stopped No. 11 seed St. Mary’s Memorial 555-466, No. 14 Emanuael Christian Academy (469-436) and No. 7 Indian Lake 499-485 to reach the finals.

Top-seeded For Loramie, which finished with 2,742 total pinfall to claim honors by 46 pins over Mechanicsburg, was beaten in the semifinals by Kettering Alter 418-409.

Triway’s Emma Yoder was the individual champion witha 565 series, three pins ahead of Benjamin Logan’s Addie Buckenroth. Addyson Meshew also shot 482 for the Titans.

In the boys division, top-seeded Mechanicsburg stopped No. 3 seed Kenton Ridge 651-564 to claim the title. Mechanicsburg finished with 3,380 to claim the top seed, 170 pins ahead of second-seeded Coldwarter.

Triway, which reached the 16-team championship round as the No. 6 seed, finished with 2,910. The Titans fell to Kenton Ridge 564-486 in the quarterfinal round after stopping No. 11 seed Minster 622-610 in their opening round match.

Kenton Ridge’s Logan Duncan was the individual champion with a 725 series. Aeron Meshew led Triway with 605 and Owen Fiesler added 561.

College Bowl tourney set Dec. 11

College Bowl Tournaments will hold its next event, a doubles tourney, at 10 a.m. Dec. 11 at Eastbury Bowling Center.

Bowlers again roll four qualifying games before the field is cut for single-game matches based on number of entries.

Entry fee is $130, with first place paying $940 based on a field of 24 teams. 

Bowlers must bowl in four tourney events to qualify for the group’s end-of-season tourney.

Akron sweeper set

The next Sunday Sweeper at Spins Bowl Akron is set for 6 p.m. Dec. 12. It is a scratch doubles event bowled on a house pattern.

Entry fee is $100 per team, with one-in-four cashing. Teams bowl four qualifying games before the field is cut to the top four for the stepladder finals.

Nagle tourney set in Alliance

The annual Ted Nagle Memorial Tournament is set for 10 a.m. Dec. 19 at Christopher Columbus Lanes in Alliance.

The former Christmas Eve event again will be held at the center, 505 South Liberty Ave., with a $65 entry fee.

Bowlers will roll six qualifying ames over 12 lanes with the top five advancing to the stepladder finals.

Junior-Senior event set in January

An over 50/under 50 doubles tourney is set for 9 a.m. Jan. 23 at Clutch Lanes in Cuyahoga Falls.

Entry fee is $200 per team, with each team having one bowler over age 50 and one under. First place will pay $3,000 based on 48 entries. The field is limited to 48 teams, with 28 teams in the field as of Sunday.
