
AKRON — Top-seeded Perry defeated No. 2 seed Boardman 2-1 in a best-of-three Baker System final to claim the girls division title during Monday’s Holiday Tournament at Stonehedge Family Fun Center.
The Panthers, who had 3,801 total pinfall to top qualifying by 182 pins, were led by Hannah Miller’s 603 series. Alexis Carper added 560, Kiele Poling 537 and Ami King 510 also for the Panthers.
Perry won 164-166, 175-172 and 184-172 to earn the title.
The Panthers stopped No. 8-seed Nordonia and No. 5-seed Peninsula Woodridge in earlier stepladder finals matches.
The Perry boys earned the No. 4 seed for the stepladder finals, but fell in the semifinals to eventual champion and top-seeded Nordonia on Sunday during the two-day event. The Panthers stopped No. 5 seed Copley in the quarterfinals.
Nordonia topped the boys field with 4,238 total pinfall. Perry finished with 4,004.
The Panthers were led by Bryce Little’s 610 series and Kaleb Corrin added 609.
The field included 14 boys and 16 girls squads.
Dombrowski tops Clutch field
CUYAHOGA FALLS — No. 14-seeded Patrick Dombrowski defeated No. 4 seed Mark Pordash to claim honors during the 23rd annual Holiday Scratch Classic on Dec. 24 at Clutch Lanes.
The 70-player field was cut to the top 16 for single-game match-play rounds to determine the champion.
Frank Testa led the four-game qualifier with 1,069 total pinfall, 63 pins ahead of James Nolen. The cut for match play was 932.
Vincent Ludwig had the tourney’s lone 300 in Game 2, while Testa had games of 289 and 286 en route to leading qualifying. Trent Hoover also shot 287.
Testa fell in his opening match to No. 16 seed Ryan Liederbach. Liederbach then fell to Eric Bator in the quarterfinal round.
McKinley teams finish eighth in Columbus
COLUMBUS — The McKinley girls and boys bowling teams each finished eighth during the Pioneer Baker Tournament on Dec. 18 at the Columbus Square Bowling Palace.
Ashland swept both the boys and girls titles at the event, with the boys coming out of the No. 4 seed spot and the girls as the top seed. Ashland topped Olentangy 168-136 and 205-149 to claim the girls title in the best-of-three Baker System finals. In the boys division, Ashland stopped No. 3 seed Miami Trace 216-174, 1967-212 and 243-159 to win the title 2-1.
McKinley’s boys fell to top-seeded Olentangy Orange 198-205 and 196-200 in their opening match. The Bulldogs girls fell to Ashland 124-219 and 149-193 in their opening stepladder match.
