
CUYAHOGA FALLS — Triway High School’s girls bowling team ran away from the field to capture Saturday’s Clutch Classic tournament at Clutch Lanes.
The Titans, who held a 186-pin lead after the opening three regular games, added a tourney-high 1,042 pinfall during the six-game Baker System block to finish with 3,888, 421 pins ahead of second-place Akron Hoban. Wooster finished third with 3,440, and GlenOak was seventh with 3,260 in the 10-team field.
Triway sophomore Emma Yoder led the individuals with a 662 series, followed by Wooster’s Rebecca Stinchcomb (641) and Abbie Leiendecker (616). Triway Addy Meshew also earned a spot on the all-tournament team with a 598 series.
Among other area players, GlenOak’s Jessica Ball also had 556 and Triway’s Danielle Densmore had 519.
Woodridge, which stood second following the opening three regular games, took the boys title with 4,078, just three pins ahead of second-place Wooster. Triway was ninth (3,860) and GlenOak finished 10th (3,860) in the 12-team field.
Hudson’s Brock Miller threw a 300 game en route to topping the individual field with a 787 series. Wooster’s Seth Opatz finished fourth with 661 to also make the all-tournament team.
Among other local players, GlenOak’s Nate Davis shot 653 and Triway’s Aeron Meshew had 650.

East Canton boys take second
GARRETTSVILLE — East Canton’s boys finished second during Saturday’s G-men Classic at Sky Lanes Bowling Center.
The Hornets, the No. 2 seed entering the four-team match-play championship round, were beaten by top-seeded Ravenna 2-0 in the best-of-three title match. Ravenna won 164-128 and 178-169.
Ravenna was the qualifying leader in the 14-team field with 3,860 total pinfall, 124 pins ahead of East Canton.
Medina’s Chase Gordon topped the individual field with a 696 series, with Ravenna’s Kevin Robbins (666) and Grayson Speck (658) also finishing among the top four.
East Canton was led by Bryce Beadnell, who finished tied for second overall with a 666 series.
No. 4 seed Champion captured the girls title with a 2-1 win over No. 2 seed Crestwood. Boardman was the qualifying leader in the 12-team girls field with 3,695 total pinfall.
Perry, Nordonia capture JV tourney titles
AKRON — The Perry girls and Nordonia boys took top honors during Saturday’s Bulldog JV Baker Bowl at Stonehedge Family Fun Center.
The junior varsity tournament, with a qualifying format featuring 12 Baker System games, drew 12 boys and 10 girls teams.
In the boys division, Nordonia finished with 1,983 total pinfall to claim the qualifying lead, 144 pins ahead of second-place Cuyahoga Falls. Among area teams, Perry was fourth with 1,764 to claim the final spot in the championship round, followed by Carrollton (1,690), Green (1,384) and Coventry (1,190).
Nordonia topped Perry in the best-of-three championship round 2-0 with games of 164 and 214 to Perry’s 154 and 196 to reach the finale against No. 3 seed Ravenna, which stopped Cuyahoga Falls 2-1 in the semifinals.
Nordonia took the title by stopping Ravenna 208-120 and 223-197.
In the girls division, Perry led qualifying with 1,643, just 45 pins ahed of Conotton Valley and 46 pins ahead of Green.
Among other area teams missing the cut were Carrollton (1,394), Akron Hoban (1,350) and Coventry 1,262.
Perry swept fourth-seeded Mentor in the semifinals 2-0 with games of 150-140, while No. 3 seed Green topped Conotton Valley 2-1, winning the deciding game 147-116.
In the title match, the Panthers swept the Bulldogs 139-90 and 124-102.
Green girls take second
COLUMBUS — The Green girls bowling team took third during Saturday’s Buckeye High School Classic at HP Lanes.
The Bulldogs made the cut to the four-team championship round in the 20-team field with a total pinfall of 4,033, just seven pins behind top-seeded Ashland. Qualifying consisted of three regular games and eight Baker System games.
Green fell in the best-of-three match-play semifinal round to No. 3 seed Gahanna Lincoln 154-148 and 177-120.
Ashland took the title by stopping No. 4 seed St. Mary’s Memorial in the semifinals (187-125, 154-150) and Lincoln (162-138, 195-182) in the title match.
Green’s Marissa Perrine finished second overall with a 635 series and Veda Hughes was fourth with 586. Alyssa Holt (534) and Madison Perrine (522) also had top-10 finishes for the Bulldogs.
Among other area tams, Nordonia was eighth (3,366) and Wadsworth was 14th (2,782)
Ashland completed the tournament sweep with a 236-178 and 211-204 win over No. 1 seed Nordonia in the boys division. Ashland was the No. 2 seed and advanced to the finals with a 189-155, 191-137 win over No. 3 Celina.
Nordonia finished with a 4,268 total pinfall to earn the top seed, with the Eagles finishing with 4,189. Wadsworth was 12th in the field (3,877) and Boardman was 13th (3,853).
