LORAIN — Five area players and a former Stark County resident are among 16 survivors following 12 games during the 2022 Ohio State Women’s Queen’s Tournament at Rebman Recreation on Saturday.
The original 91-player field rolled six qualifying games before the field was cut to the top 46 for a six-game semifinal round. Pins from the first round of qualifying were dropped for the semifinal round.
Among bowlers reaching today’s match-play portion of the event are Wadsworth’s Nicole Eagon (third, 1,482 total pinfall), Stark County’s Taylor Sturm (eighth, 1,400, including a 298 in four of the semifinal round), Massillon’s Mandi Testa (14th, 1,357); former Canton resident and former Queens champion Jennifer Higgins (10th, 1,397); Portage County resident Jennifer Kiss (13th, 1,363); and Akron’s Lisa Osborne (12th, 1,362)
Toledo’s Jordan Richard led the semifinal round with 1,525 total pinfall, three pins ahead of Dayton’s Stephanie Burkhardt.
Central Ohio’s Kelly Bishop, who led the six-game qualifier with 1,478 total pinfall, one pin ahead of Richard, missed the final cut to the top 16 during the semifinal round by just one pin.
Players will return at 9 a.m. today to begin match play according to seed. Match play will consist of two games, with the high total pins advancing. Match play will continue until five players remain for the stepladder finals.
Higgins stood fourth after qualifying, rolling a 300 at Game 3, and finished43 pins behind Bishop with 1,435. Qualifying finishes for other area players included Eagon (22nd, 1,310); Sturm (ninth, 1,387), Testa (42nd, 1,241); Kiss (eighth, 1,392) and Osborne (30th, 1,379).
