Bowling briefs: Walsh women take third at tourney

ALTOONA, Pa. — The Walsh University women’s bowling team compiled a record of 9-3 to finish third overall in a 13-team field during the Red Flash Invite at Holiday Bowl.

The tourney included five tradition matches on Friday, 25 Baker System games on Saturday and bracket play Sunday.

The Cavaliers finished with 11,732 total pinfall. During Sunday’s bracket play, Walsh topped Wilmington twice (4-1 and 4-2) aand fell to Morgan State (4-2) in best-of-seven matches.

Individually for Walsh, Emily Kiss finished fourth overall with 1,011 total pinfall (202.2 average), Abby Moore was 15th (900), Addison Starr was 19th (884) and Alicia Yacono was 22nd (865).

During Saturday’s Baker System play, the Cavalirs combined to average 174.3 as a team while compiling a 3-1 record.

The Cavaliers return to action Feb. 12 during the Ohio Bowling Conference No. 4 event in Columbus.

PBA sets pro-am plans for TOC

FAIRLAWN  — The PBA Tournament of Champions returns to AMF Riviera Lanes the week of Feb. 21, starting with the pre-tournament qualifier and practice session on Monday.

A pro=am is set for 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Feb. 26, with entry fees being $89 for the youth divisioin and $108 for the adult division. Both divisions are eligible for a ball upgrade of a special edition Bowlero Storm Hy-Road ball for $189 (youth) and $209 (adult).

Pros also at Clutch

CUYAHOGA FALLS — The PBA Central Region will be holding the PBA/PBA50 Doubles/Clutch Lanes Central Open on Feb. 18 through 20 at Clutch Lanes.

A pair of eight-game qualifiers are set for 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Feb. 19, with the top 12 teams advancing to Sunday’s bracket match-play finals on Feb. 20. A full field of 48 teams is set, including several PBA Hall of Famers and a variety of area players.

Admission is free.

In addition, a special Practice with the Pros event will be set for 7 p.m. Feb. 18. A two-hour clinic will allow bowlers to experience bowling on the oil pattern used by the pros during the event, with the pros providing coaching.

The event is open to youth and adult bowlers. Cost is $30.

Klonowski approaching

CANTON — The 30th annual John Klonowski Memorial Scratch Singles Tournament is set for 9 a.m. Feb. 6 at Eastbury Bowling Center.

The field is limited to 108 entries, with first place paying $1,600, plus a free entry into next year’s event, based on a full field.

Bowlers will roll five qualifying games on a house oil pattern before the field is cut to the top 20 for two rounds of three-game match play, with high series totals advancing. The final five advance to the stepladder finals.

College Bowl doubles set

NORTH CANTON — The next College Bowl Tournaments event is a under 50-over 50 doubles tourney at 10 a.m. Feb. 12 at Park Centre Lanes.

The tournament doubles is one player under age 50 and one age 50 and older. Bowlers roll a four-game qualifier before the field is cut for single-game match-play rounds based on entry totals.

Entry fee is $130 per team, with first place paying $940 based on a 24-team field. The tournament is contested on a house oil pattern. For information, contact Jeff DiMarzio.
