PBA: TACKETT CLAIMS REGIONAL TITLE
JACKSON, Mich. — Huntington, Ind., right-hander Zac Tackett, who claimed the final match-play spot by just eight pins, claimed the title during the PBA Jax-60 Central Open on Sunday at Jax60.
During the one-day event, bowlers rolled eight qualifying games before the field was cut to the top 12 in the 54-player field for two rounds of best-of-three match play. The final four players then bowled single-game match-play to determine the champion.
Tackett compiled a 6-1 overall match-play mark and earned 1,835 bonus pins to finish with 5,164 total pinfall. He averaged 221.93 for the event.
Jeffery Mann of West Lafayette, Ind., finished second while qualifying leader Patrick Dombrowski, a Parma right-hander, was third. Dombrowski led qualifying with 1,873, averaging 234.13 and finishing just four pins ahead of Mann.
Tackett finished qualifying with 1,740, an average of 217.50, and finishing just eight pins ahead of Cory Hersha.
Kevin Plyley of Richmond, Ind., gained the final cash spot with 1,703 in 18th place. Three nonmembers — Joshua Solomon, Paul Farley and Williams Holmes — advanced to the top 12 and earned cash spots.
The Central Region returns to action Oct. 30 in Anderson, Ind., with another one-day event at Championship Lanes.

YOUTH TOURNEY: STARK USBC SETS YOUTH DOUBLES
CANTON — The Stark County USBC will be holding a Halloween Youth Doubles at 10 a.m. Oct. 30 at AMF Hall of Fame Lanes.
Entry fee is $50 per team, with tams rolling two individual games and four Baker System games. This is a handicap event, with competition in the 18U and 13U divisions. Teams can be mixed by gender, but teams mixing 18U and 13U competitors must bowl in the 18U division.

COLLEGE BOWLING: NEBRASKA TOPS PENGUIN CLASSIC
STRUTHERS — Youngstown State had two bowlers finish in the top six individually, but the Penguins finished as runners-up to Nebraska during the 2022 MOTIV Penguin Classic on Sunday at Holiday Bowl.
Nebraska captured the last two games of the best-of-seven title match after splitting the first two with the Penguins to claim the title.
Nebraska’s Jillian Martin of Stow was the top individual with 1,745 total pinfall over eight games, a 218.13 average, followed by teammate Crystal Elliott with 1,737. YSU placed two players in the top six with Kristen Moore taking fifth (1,701) and Madyson Marx finishing sixth (1,694).
Among other Ohio schools in the 14-team women’s field, Wright State finished 11th with 12,104 total pinfall and Walsh University was 13th with 11,748. Jessica Lawrence led Walsh, finishing 30th overall with 1,422 and teammate Alicia Yacono was 34th with 1,368. Natalie Hansen led Wright State, finishing 44th with 1,227.
