CUYAHOGA FALLS — Fans get get a mini preview of next week’s PBA Tournament of Champions during this weekend’s PBA/PBA50 Doubles/Clutch Lanes Open, which begins Saturday at Clutch Lanes.
The regional event opens with a practice session from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, followed by a pros-adult/youth clinic at 7 p.m.
Tournament pay for the 48 doubles teams begins at 8 a.m. Saturday with an eight-game block for A squad. The second B squad eight-game block begins at 1:30 p.m.
Following qualifying, the top 12 teams will advance to Sunday’s match play rounds using a best-of-seven team Baker System games format, beginning with teams seeded five through 12.
Among regular PBA Tour players in the field are Graham Fach, Tommy Jones, Marshall Kent, Thomas Larsen, Shawn Maldonado, Sean Rash, Ronnie Russell, Chris Via and Mike Wolfe.
PBA50 Tour players in the field include Brad Angelo, Parker Bohn III, Lennie Boresch Jr., Dino Castillo, Jason Couch, Doug Kent, Tim Mack, Ryan Shafer, Pete Weber and Dave Wodka.
Several area players also will be participating in a strong regional field, including Joe Bailey, Dean Billings, Brian Buehler, Michael Clark Jr., Jim Dilyard, Patrick Dombrowski, Bob Eckenrode, Brandon Fleming, Don Hogue, Tony Johnson, Ted Kays Jr., Ryan Liederbach, John Shreve Jr., Rich Stoffer, Jason Waters and Rick Zakrajsek.
Admission is free for the two-day event. First place will pay $4,000.
