GALION — Andrew Rettig captured his fourth career regional title by topping a 63-player feed during the PBA50 Sherry Bodkins Memorial Central Open on Sunday at Victory Lanes.
The 53-year-old Hamburg, N.Y., left-hander compiled a 10-2 record during match play en route to finishing with 4,810 total pinfall to finish 227 pins ahead of Riverview, Fla., right-hander Tom Daugherty, who just entered the senior ranks this season.
Daugherty, Walter Ray Williams Jr. and Michael Haggitt finished second through fourth, all compiling 8-4 match-play marks.
Bowlers rolled eight qualifying games before the field was cut to the top 12 for 12 games of match play, with bonus pins being awarded for victories.
Rettig was the top qualifier with 1,789, a 223.563 average, over eight games on the PBA Del Ballard 36 oil pattern.
Tom Carter and Rudy Kasimakis tied for the final cut spot after qualifying with 1,633, just three pins ahead of Eddie Graham.

Clutch Lanes and Sports Center in Cuyahoga Falls will host its annual PBA-PBA50 Doubles-Clutch Lanes Central Open on April 11 through 13, just prior to Tournament of Champions week in Fairlawn.
The event will kick off with a Practice with the Pros clinic at 7 p.m. April 11. Cost is $30 per bowler, with individuals participating in a two-hour clinic on the sport oil pattern used by the pros. That will follow and afternoon pro practice session. Contact Clutch Lanes for details.
Two eight-game qualifying rounds are set for 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. April 12. The field will then be cut to the top 12 teams (based on a field of 36 teams or more). Those 12 teams will return Sunday for Baker System match-play rounds beginning at 8 a.m. until a champion is determined. Admission is free.
Among PBA players registered to participate are Tom Adcock, Chris Barnes, Dom Barrett, Dina Castillo, Tom Daugherty, Patrick Dombrowski, Graham Fach, Michael Haggitt, Tom Hess, Don Hogue, Eugene McCune, Kevin McCune and Anthony Simonsen.

The PBA Tournament of Champions will be held the week of April 14 through April 20 at AMF Riviera Lanes in Fairlawn.
The pro-am is set for 6 p.m. April 14 with options ranging from $89 to $209 depending on the package. A high school clinic also will be held at 5 p.m. April 13.
