CUYAHOGA FALLS — Ronnie Russell and Dave Wodka combined for 3,903 total pinfall to hold the opening-block lead during :Saturday’s PBA/PBA50 Doubles/Clutch Lanes Central Open at Clutch Lanes.
Russell, who owns six career PBA Tour titles, averaged 263.13 to lead the team as the top individual with 2,105 through eight qualifying games. That included a 299 in Game 6.
Russell and Wodka hold a 115-pin lead over PBA Hall of Fame Pete Weber and Shawn Maldonado, who finished with 3,788.
Another 24 teams were completing eight games of qualifying to make up the 12-team field for Sunday’s Baker System championship round, which begins at 9 a.m.
Another Hall of Fame, Jason Couch, and partner Mathew Ogle are sitting third (3,778), followed by Tom Hess and Sean Rash (3,726).
Among area players, Don Hogue and Joe Bailey were sitting in 11th place after the morning shift with 3,562.
Admission to Sunday’s championship round is free, with the winners splitting $4,000.
