COSHOCTON — The Carrollton High School boys and girls bowling teams captured titles and the Minerva girls also earned a trip to the state championships during Thursday’s Division II East District at Legacy Lanes.
In the boys division, Carrollton earned the lone state team berth in the six-team field, finishing with 3,777 total pinfall, just 16 pins ahead of second-place Minerva. The Lions closed in on the Warriors with a 255 Baker System game, but had just 174 in its final game of the six-game block to fall short.
Junior Brant George led the Warriors with a 547 series and senior Ryan Worth added 545. Minerva was led by senior Ahdyn Lautzenheiser, who finished third with 555.
Conotton Valley finished fourth with 3,618, and Garaway was sixth with 3,430. Sophomore Bobby Brennan finished third with 584 (based on high game due to a tie) to lead Conotton Valley and senior Issac Yoder was high for Garaway with 548.
Teams bowled three regular games and six Baker games, with the top team and top individual who was not a member of that advancing team moving on to the state championships, set for March 4 (boys) and 5 (girls) at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl in Columbus.
East Liverpool junior Nathan Kelly earned the individual berth with a 670 series, 86 pins ahead of runner-up Gavin Maze, also of East Liverpool.
TWO GIRLS TEAMS ADVANCE
In the girls division, which advanced two teams and two individuals two state in the six-team field, Carrollton took the title with 3,755, 404 pins ahead of runner-up Minerva.
The Warriors finished with 2,732 during the three regular games to take a 389-pin lead into the Baker games.
Carrollton senior Tara Oberlin was the individual champion with a 618 series, and Minerva freshman Jadynn Thompson was runner-up with 615. Sophomore Abby Natche added 556 for the Warriors, and junior Lydia Sanor had 473 for the Lions.
Sandy Valley junior Raven Cordia earned one of the individual spots, finishing third overall with a 557. The other individual berth when to Harrison Central senior Aleyna Runevitch with 543.
Conotton Valley finished third with 3,246, 105 pins behind Minerva for the final state berth. Sandy Valley was fourth (3,125) and Claymont was sixth (3,037). Daphne Stuber led Conotton Valley with a 482 series. Junior Joey Boyer also had 517 for the Cardinals.
The Division I district is set for March 1 at Sunrise Bowling Center in Zanesville.
