ZANESVILLE — Neither Dover nor New Philadelphia was able to advance boys or girls teams during the Division I East District high school bowling tournament Tuesday at Sunrise Bowling Center.
In the boys division, Sheridan received the only berth in the nine-team field with 3,840 total pinfall, 222 pins ahead of second-place Miami Trace. New Philadelphia was third with 3,602 and Dover took eighth with 2,998.
The format was three regular games and six Baker System games. Sheridan advances to the Division I state tournament, set for March 11 at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl in Columbus.
Miami Trace senior Connor Collins gained the lone individual state berth with a 628 series, 36 pins ahead of runner-up Quakers senior Zach Schupbach (592).
Junior Josh Henke also shot 549 for the Quakers. Freshman Jacob Shanklin was high for Dover with 514.
In the girls division, Hillsboro earned the lone state berth with 3,285, 219 pins ahead of runner-up Chillicothe. New Philadelphia was fourth (2,710) and Dover was fifth (2,551).
Miami Trace sophomore Onesti Evans earned the lone individual berth with 541, 18 pins ahead of runner-up Madisyn Gilbert of Chillicothe.
Junior Kaylie Gibson led Dover with a 482 series. Junior Grace Wigfield was high for the Quakers with 459.
The girls state tourney is set for March 12 at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.
