Fellows tops College Bowl singles event

CANTON — Left-hander Jim Fellows, seventh-seeded following qualifying, topped fifth-seeded Joe Hostetler 258-247 to win Saturday’s College Bowl Tournaments singles event at Eastbury Bowling Center.

Fellows, who won $400, reached the title match with a 214-178 win over fellow lefty John Price during the semifinal round in the 32-player field.

Hostetler topped left-hander Viktor Varner 238-235 to earn his spot in the title match.

Varner was the top qualifier with 993 total pinfall during his four games. He also had the event’s lone 300 game in Game 1.

There was a tie for the final match-play spot, with Kevin Schott topping Dan Block 40-29 in a two-frame rolloff to advance. Schott then fell to Varner in his opening match.

The next event is in a regular doubles at 10 a.m. April 9 at AMF Hall of Fame Lanes.

Players must have participated in at least four events to qualify for the group’s year-end singles tournament, which is set for May 14 at Park Centre.
