GALION — No. 2 seed Mitch Beasley compiled an 8-4 match-play record on Sunday to capture the PBA50 Shery Bodkins Memorial Central Open at Victory Lanes.
Beasley, from Clarksville, Tenn., defeated Lennie Boresch Jr. 192-183 in his final position round match to top Springfield’s Michael Haggitt by just 17 pins to win the title. Haggitt was the qualifying leader with 1,769, 25 pins ahead of Beasley..
Beasley finished with 4,484 total pinfall after averaging 212.20 during the event. Haggitt finished with 4,467 with a 9-3 match-play mark, including shooting 235 during his final match against Larry Verble.
Beasley, a 53-year-old right-hander, with two career PBA titles, won $1,500 for his title while Haggitt took home $1,000.
Other top finishers included Boresch, who was third with 4,385, and Billl Watson, who was fourth with 4,357.
Wadsworth’s Dale Csuhta finished seventh with 4,288 and a 7-4-1 match-play mark. Rootstown’s Dean Billings was ninth with a 4-7-1- mark and 4,222, and Strasburg’s Steve Easterday was 14th with a 5-7 record and 3,944.
Canton’s Tony Johnson finished 41st with 1,389 during the eight-game qualifying round and missed the cut.
Dave Davison had the event’s lone 300 game.
