CANTON — Two teams shared honors in doubles and Jackie Shahan captured the singles title during the 89th annual Stark USBC Women’s Handicap Tournament, which concluded play Saturday at Eastbury Bowling Center.
In doubles, the mother-daughter team of Canton’s Allison Maurer and Kim Zerbey along with Canton’s Sharon DeGasperis and Sue Vukmanovich finished with 1,409 total pinfall to share first place. They finished just two pins ahead of Massillon’s Melissa Little and Lindsay Johnston (1,407). A total of nine teams cashed in the doubles event, with low to cash being 1,314.
In singles, Shahan finished with 742 to finish two pins ahead of Massillon’s Ann Wright (740), with Massillon’s Julie Nicholas finishing third (720).
Johnston topped the handicap all-events division with 2,109 after rolling her first 700 series with a 714 actual during the tournament. She finished 24 pins ahead of Massillon’s Renae Burns (2,085), who shot 700 during the team event. Zerbey finished third with 2,078.
Louisville’s Kara Thomas topped the all-events scratch division with 1,968, 126 pins ahead of Johnston (1,842) with Shahan finishing third (1,833).
Johnston’s series topped the singles and doubles, followed by Thomas’ 711. Other top series came from Maurer 697, Zerbey 691 and Shahan 686.
The Stark USBC Open Handicap Championships began Sunday at Eastbury with the team event. Singles and doubles will begin next weekend.
