Junior bowling: Stark USBC awards scholarships

CANTON — The Stark County USBC awarded six scholarships to high school bowlers during its annual meeting recently.

In addition, Cayce Burkholder was re-elected as vice president of the organization, with Joyce McCourry and Rich Staffer Jr. being elected as directors.

JTBA ENDS SEASON

HEATH — Area players earned SMART fund scholarship funds as the Junior Tournament Bowlers Association held its 42nd annual JTBA-Henson Bowling Academy Championships to end is 2021-22 season at Park Lanes.

Triway High School sophomore Emma Yoder finished second in the U15 girls division with 2,648 total pinfall, finishing 92 pins behind winner Bethany Strong. Yoder’s teammate and fellow sophomore Addyson Meshew was fourth with 2,230.

Scholarships were awarded to the top four finishers in each age division in both the boys and girls categories in the end-of-season event.

Wooster sophomore Abbie Leiendecker finished fourth in the girls U18 division with 2,603, 215 pins behind champion Brenna Hartzler. Carrollton senior Tara Oberlin finished ninth.

In the boys 15U, Triway’s Aaron Mehew took fourth with 2,422, and Ashland’s Landon Dreibelbis was ninth with 1,797. Tulsa’s Cameron Kilgore finished 11th (1,786).

Other champions included Chris LeSueur, 4,315, 18U boys; Elliott Gordon, 2,897, U15 boys; and Miles Gordon, 2,854, U12.
