CANTON — The Stark County USBC held its annual meeting Thursday at Meadowlake Golf, Swim and Event Center, with the highlight being the awarding of six $1,000 scholarships to area high school players.
High school students earned specific scholarships based on performance, extracurricular activities, sportsmanship and goals. All scholarships, except for one, went to high school seniors, the exception being one of the Massillon scholarships. Each was worth $1,000:
- Stark County USBC Memorial Scholarships (girl and boy): Madison Paxton (Lake), Logan Gawlak (Canton Central Catholic)
- Stark County USBC Presidents Award: Cole Hapstak (North Canton Hoover)
- Stark County USBC High School Bowling Conference Scholarship Award: Brooklynn Hobson (Lake)
- Stark County USBC Massillon Scholarship (boy and girl): Nicholas Fromholtz (Massillon), Rylee Dunn (Jackson)
Recipients went through an application process to be considered for the honors.
In addition, Stark County USBC elected officers and delegates for the 2025-26 season. Officers include:
- Vice president: Cayce Burkholder;
- Directors: Alan Leasure, Joyce McCourry and Jean Tondola Smith; and
- Delegates: Smith and Sue Vukmanovich.
Checks for cashers during the Stark County USBC’s Open and Women’s championships were also awarded, with champions in each event being given plaques for their accomplishments.
