BOWLING BRIEFS: McKinney, Meredith top Spins Bowl doubles

AKRON — No. 3 seed Ty McKinney and Tyler Meredith won two matches to claim Sunday’s Mac’s Cabana Spins Bowl Akron Doubles sweeper at Spins Bowl Akron.

McKinney, who won last month’s event with Ryan Ashby, and Meredith defeated top-seeded Joe Hostetler and Dylan Rinella in the title match to win $644 in the 14-team field.

Hostetler and Rinella were the No. 1 seed with 2,080 total pinfall, 160 pins ahead of No. 2 seed Dean Vargo and Frank Testa, who fell to McKinney and Meredith in the semifinals of the three-team stepladder. Hostetler and Rinella won $300; Testa and Vargo took home $120.

Hostetler and Rinella were one-two during qualifying, with the latter finishing with 1,057 and the former with 1,023. Rinella had the high tourney game of 289.
