Bowling briefs: Schott earns first tourney win

ALLIANCE — Kevin Schott averaged 199.75 over four games on four separate oil patterns to earn his first adult title during the first AL League Skills tournament Sunday at AL Leasure Lanes inside American Legion 166.

The 21-player field bowled on four different oil patterns in the four-lane center — 30-foot, 40-foot and 45-foot blocks and a reverse block — during the four-game event.

Schott, a 23-year-old Alliance right-hander, finished with 799 total pins for a 69-pin advantage over second-place Adam Kutz (730) and third-place Rob Weary (712). They were the only three players to break 700.

“The bowling alley is named after my father, who took care of it for free for 40 years,” Canton resident and tournament director Alan Leasure said. “It was on four wooden lanes. I did this to raise money for parts and for people to see what it’s like to bowl on lanes for the 1960. It was very humbling, but fun. We hope to continue this tradition.”

Only 10 players were able to combine more than a 600 series. Other top 10-finishers included Jerry Thompson 663, Ryan Leasure 648, Justin Hackney 640, David Bollinger 639, Chuck Spencer 603, Jack Reed 601 and Brian Buehler 600.
