JTBA: Wooster trio earn top-eight finishes

COLUMBUS — Fresh off solid performances during the Teen Masters, Wooster’s Abbie Leiendecker, Emma Yoder and Addy Meshew earned top-eight finishes during the Junior Tournament Bowlers Association (JTBA)-Henson Bowling Academy Kick-Off Tournament on Sunday at HP Lanes.

Leiendecker and Yoder, who went 1-2 during the five-game qualifying round with 1,020 and 958 total pinfalls, respectively, finished third and seventh overall after match-play losses. Meshew came in eighth after earning the final match play spot by just seven pins (870)

Yoder was beaten in the first-round of match play by eventual girls U18 champion Madison Strouse 374-345. Leiendecker, who stopped Meshew 402-360, fell to Jenna Stretch 394-346 in the semifinals.

Strouse, the No. 7 seed, topped fifth-seeded Stretch 397-364 to claim the title. Carrollton’s Tara Oberlin finished 14th with 819 in qualifying in the 23-player field.

In the boys 18U division, 12th-seeded Hayden Tarris claimed the title with a 506-376 win over No. 7 seed Brendan Tahsler in the 45-player field. Wooster’s Chad Harper was 18th with 946, and Aaron Meshew was 30th with 880.

In the boys 15U, No. 2 seed Roman Caporale stopped No. 1 seed Aidan Furukawa 461-434 to win. Among area players, Ashland’s Landon Dreidelbis was 10th with 935 in qualifying, and Hartville’s Zachary Abbott was 26th with 717 after not completing the final game.

Other winners included Garbrielle Brown in the girls 13U, and Evan Johnson in the boys 12U. Also in 13U, Canton’s Rylee Dunn finished eighth overall with 761. Only the top four made match play in that division in the 15-player field.

The next JTBA events are the fourth annual Mystery Trio on Aug. 20 at Clutch Lanes and Sports Center in Cuyahoga Falls, and the Spins Bowl Akron Youth Open on Aug. 21at Spins Bowl Akron.
