Bowling briefs: Junior events, results

JTBA: WOOSTER PAIR MEET FOR TITLE

BEAVERCREEK — Wooster right-hander Abbie Leiendecker completed a big weekend with a victory in the 18U girls division during Sunday’s Junior Tournament Bowlers Association (JTBA) Wright State Raider Classic at Beaver Vu Bowl.

Leiendecker, who shot her first career 300 game during a Saturday event also at Beaver Vu, advanced to the title match as the No. 4 seed against another Wooster resident, left-hander Emma Yoder, the No. 3 seed.

Leiendecker claimed the victory with games of 196 and 238 to Yoder’s 190 and 181, earning a $400 scholarship in the 21-player field. Yoder earned $200.

Other champions included Hayden Tarris in the boys 18U with a 547-405 win over Keaton Bruns, including shooting a 289 in Game 1 of the two-game total pinfall match; Elliott Gordon in the 15U boys with a 370-357 win over Curtis Swezey; Gabrielle Brown in 15U girls with a 382-306 win over Kendall Craig; and Miles Gordon in the 12U boys with a 357-349 win over Isaiah Durfllinger.

JTBA Midwest Eliminator

Leiendecker shot her first 300 in Game 2 of the Midwest Eliminator on Saturday at Beaver Vu after opening with 278 en route to the top seed in the girls U18 division.

Leiendecker fell in the third elimination round after shooting 197. Delaney Rossette defeated Alli Shattuck 168-148 for the win.

Other champions included Kyle Malinowski Jr. in the boys 18U with a 211-193 win over Connor Petrey-Minton; Elliott Gordon in the boys 15U with a 187-172 win over Jacob Moravcik; Kylie Fisher in the girls 15U with a 191-164 win over Sophia Best; and Miles Gordon in 12U mixed with a 196-160 win over Durflinger.

Saturday’s event drew 125 entries; Sunday had 135.

TOURNAMENTS COMING UP FOR YOUTH BOWLERS

Area tournaments have been scheduled prior to the start of the high school bowling season, which officials begins Nov. 17.

Here are a couple set for Northeast Ohio:

  • The Stark County USBC Fall Youth Singles Tournament, set for 10 a.m. Oct. 9 at Park Centre Lanes in North Canton. Entry fee is $40 for this handicap event, with 18U and 13u age divisions for boys and girls. Bowlers will roll four total games on a house oil pattern, with scholarships being awarded.   • Portage County Youth Bowling will be holding a doubles and singles event at 1 p.m. Oct. 22-23 at Kent Lanes In Kent. Cost is $20 per bowler per handicap event, with a $10 optional scratch fee. In doubles, teams will bowl three games, with multiple entries with different doubles partners permitted. Singles will be three more games. All six games will be bowled on the same pair of lanes. Competition will be in four divisions for both boys and girls based on averages. HIGH SCHOOL EVENTS SET

CANTON — East Canton High School will be hosting its first Varsity Sectional Warm-Up Tournament at 10 a.m. Jan. 28 at Eastbury Bowling Center in Canton.

Entry fee is $165 or $150, depending on food choices., with boys and girls divisions.

Teams will bowl three regular games and four Baker System games before the fields are cut to the top four in each division for best-of-three Baker System matches by seed.

In addition, East Canton will be holding its 10th annual Junior Varsity Hornet Integrity Bowl at 10 a.m. Jan. 21 also at Eastbury, which is limited to junior varsity squads.
