
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic — Despite torrential storms caused by Hurricane Fiona surrounding the island, Akron’s Don Hogue put on his own memorable performance inside Sebelen Bowling Center.
Bowling in the Masters division for the Pan American Senior and Super Senior Games, Hogue claimed gold medals in both doubles and trio and a silver medal in singles and Baker System team event en route to winning gold for the all-around title.
His performance earns Hogue a spot in the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.
In trio, Hogue shot 1,389 for six games to lead Team Canada to a total pinfall of 3,776, 54 pins ahead of the Dominican Republic, to claim gold. Hogue shot 298 in Game 3, leaving a 4-7 on his final shot.
His teammates were Martin Belanger and Michael Snow.
Hogue also teamed with Snow to capture the doubles title with 2,632, as the former posted 1,438 for his six games.
In singles Hogue shot 1,369 to finish second to the Dominican’s Roland Sebelen’s 1,476.
Hogue also teamed with Snow, Belanger and Mario Robitaille to claim silver in the team event with 2,450, finishing 31 pins behind the Dominican Republic, to complete the tournament.
RODGERS WINS ONE-BALL EVENT
OAKWOOD — D’Andre Rodgers finished with 1,029 to take first place in the One-Ball Sweeper held Sept. 17 at Roseland Lanes.
Rodgers had a high game of 275 to take the $1,000 top check, finishing just four pins ahead of Mike Mange, who shot 300 in Game 1 of the four-game event to earn $500.
The event drew 56 entries.

LOUISVILLE SETS WARNER FUND-RAISER
CANTON — The Tom Warner Memorial Scholarship Fund is holding a benefit bowl from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 25 at Eastbury Bowling Center.
The scholarship fund was established in memory of former Louisville High School bowler and first-team All-Stark County Conference bowler Tom Warner, who was killed in a one-car auto accident prior to the start of his senior year.
The scholarship is awarded to a Stark County high school senior who plans to continue their education and bowling career in college. The vet will include 50-50 raffle, bake sale and basket raffles.
Cost is $20 per person for two hours of cosmic bowling.

SPINS BOWL AKRON SWEEPER SERIES
AKRON — The September Spins Bowl Akron scratch singles sweeper is set for 5 p.m. Sept. 25 at Spins Bowl Akron.
Entry fee is $50 per player, with each bowler rolling five qualifying games before the field is cut to the top four for the stepladder finals.
Payouts are one-in-four, with the event bowled on a house oil pattern.

TOURNAMENTS COMING UP FOR YOUTH BOWLERS
Area tournaments have been scheduled prior to the start of the high school bowling season, which officially begins Nov. 17.
Here are a couple set for Northeast Ohio:
- The Stark County USBC Fall Youth Singles Tournament, set for 10 a.m. Oct. 9 at Park Centre Lanes in North Canton. Entry fee is $40 for this handicap event, with 18U and 13u age divisions for boys and girls. Bowlers will roll four total games on a house oil pattern, with scholarships being awarded. - Portage County Youth Bowling will be holding a doubles and singles event at 1 p.m. Oct. 22-23 at Kent Lanes In Kent. Cost is $20 per bowler per handicap event, with a $10 optional scratch fee. In doubles, teams will bowl three games, with multiple entries with different doubles partners permitted. Singles will be three more games. All six games will be bowled on the same pair of lanes. Competition will be in four divisions for both boys and girls based on averages.
