LEXINGTON — Chad Roberts and Dan Higgins surged into the lead with a 536 in Game 3 and held on for a 29-pin advantage at the halfway point of the Reggie Shaw Two-Shot Doubles Marathon on Saturday at Lex Lanes.
Roberts and Higgins combined for 2,027 total pinfall after the initial four games. The tandem, who captured the Akron Open Doubles title in August, were never lower than 10th during the opening round.
The tournament is being contested on two Lex Lanes house oil patterns, with the second set of four games on the shorter of the two patterns.
Graham Fach and Kyle Mayberry stand second at the break with 1,988, followed by Nolan White and Chad Morris, who held the lead after the first two games, with 1,983.
The top area duo is J.D. Jones and Scott Vandegrift, who had a high game of 525 in Game 4 to jump to eighth with 1,915.
Steve Granger had the lone 300 of the opening shift in Game 3.
After eight games, 12 teams will receive payouts, with first place paying $2,400.
