LONGTIME BOWLING PROPRIETOR BILL WHITE DIES
KENT — Rootstown resident Bill White, who took over ownership of his first Northeast Ohio bowling centers in 1969, has died. He was 94.
White, who started in bowling at the age of 13 by setting pins, joined with Don Laubert to purchase Sky Lanes in Garrettsville in 1969.
His first ownership in bowling was taking over the pro shop at Kent Midway Lanes in 1961. He later bought the center in 1972 after working seven years as its manager and renamed it Twin Star Lanes.
During his career, he also owns Akron Lanes, Harbor Lanes in Port Clinton and Eastern Lanes in Toledo.
Bill was inducted into six halls of fame, including the Ohio State Bowling, Tri-County Bowling, Portage County Bowling, Portage County All-Sports, Summit County All-Sports and Summit County Baseball. He also is an honorary member of the Kent State Athletic Hall of Fame. He also maintained his involvement on the boards of many of them.

HIGH SCHOOL: COLDWATER BOYS, PERKINS GIRLS WIN KICKOFF TITLES
COLUMBUS — Coldwater and Sandusky Perkins captured titles during the Division II version of the Ohio State High School Invitational Tournament recently at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.
In the boys division, Coldwater, the No. 1 seed after finishing with 3,344 total pinfall during three regular games and two Baker System games, defeated No. 3 seed Triway 597-546 in the three-game Baker System title match.
Coldwater defeated Green, Riverside and Northwestern en route to the title match. The Titans stopped Benjamin Logan, East Knox and No. 2 seed St. Henry en route to their second-place finish.
The Cavaliers were led by Keaton Bruns with a 687 series and Brandon Hammons with 633 in the 26-team field.
Triway was led by Caden Swanger’s 644 series and 563 from Aeron Meshew.
Carrollton also made the cut as the fourth seed, but fell in the first round of match play to Northwestern. The Warriors were led by Brant George’s 611 series.
In girls action, Division II defending state champion Triway fell to Sandusky Perkins 526-517 in the title match after being the No. 2 seed during qualifying. Coldwater led qualifying in the 22-team field with 2,898.
Perkins, the No. 3 seed, stopped Struthers, Napoleon and Carrollton en route to the title match while the Titans defeated Greenon, Waseon and Ft. Loramie.
Perkins was led by Olivia Lizzi’s 607 series and Leah Kaufman added 541. Emma Yoder led Triway with 590.
Carrollton finished fourth overall, with the Warriors being led by Aubrey Taylor’s 482 series.
Individual titles went to Coldwater’s Jasmine Schulze (629) and St. Henry’s Ryan Wherley (722).

HIGH SCHOOL: RIVER VIEW, MINERVA WIN TITLES
NEW PHILADELPHIA — Warsaw River View topped the boys division and Minerva won in the girls division during the Tuscarawas County Classic recently at Wabash Lanes.
The Dover boys finished with 3,770 total pinfall during qualifying, 224 pins ahead of second-place East Liverpool in the seven-team field. Dover stopped Minerva in the opening round of the four-team best-of-three Baker System match play after the cut as the Lions finished fourth overall.
River View, which topped East Liverpool 2-1, defeated Dover by the same score to win the title.
Dover’s girls rolled up 3,180, finishing just 10 pins ahead of Minerva during qualifying. But the Lions, who swept past East Liverpool in their opening match, topped the Tornadoes 2-1 to capture the title.
Dover’s Kris Miller led qualifying with a 689 series, and Minerva’s Isaiah Frazier had 651. Also leading the Tornadoes and earning all-tournament team spots were Jacob Shanklin (629) and Colin McGlothlin (615).
East Liverpool’s Addison Rudibaugh was the top girls individual with 631, and Dover’s Kaylie Gibson had 619. Two Lions players — Jadynn Thompson (546) and Shelby Worrell (519) — earned all-tourney team spots.
