H.S. BOWLING: Federal-Southeast teams top All-Stars
CANTON — The Federal and Southeast divisions earned narrow victories as the Stark County High School Bowling Conference held its annual All-Star Matches at AMF Hall of Fame Lanes recently.
The format was changed this season, with two divisions combining to face each other in a 12-game Baker System format. In addition, each individual teams was split into smaller teams to also give honored bowlers more of a chance to compete since there were no individual games.
In the boys division, the Federal -Southeast finished with 4,281 total pins, with a high game of 411, to stop the Anerican-National team, which finished with 4,268 — just 13 pins behind. The Anerican-National had a high combined game of 397 in Game 12.
In the girls division, the Federal-Southeast finished with 4,164 — and a high combined game of 427 in Game 11 — to stop the American-National team with 3,866, an a high game of 359.

The conference’s annual banquet is set for 1 p.m. April 16 at the Canton McKinley Eagles No. 2370, 5024 Monticello Ave. NW, in Canton.
The conference’s all-division teams as well as coaches and players of the year will be honored.
JUNIOR BOWLING: JTBA holds two area events
The Junior Tournament Bowlers Association held five-person team and doubles events Saturday and Sunday at Wayne Lanes in Wooster and AMF Hall of Fame Lanes in Canton.
The Saturday event was a five-person Baker System team challenge, with teams rolling 12 Baker qualifying games before the field was cut to the top eight for single-elimination two-game match play.
The Goofy Goobers team — which consisted of Quinn Dean, Broox Golden, Aramis Linville, Melia Mistkavich and Arden Lieb — earned the win with a 355 (149-206) win over Life of the Lefties (Grant Taylor, Hayden Tarris, Cameron Kilgore, Breanna Hartzler and Riley Spear), which finished with 302 (172-130).
Goofy Goobers were the high qualifiers with 2,591 over the 12 Baker games, followed by Life of the Lefties (2,432) in the 20-team field.
During Sunday’s JTBA-Lourdes University Junior Doubles, the tandems of Cameron Kilgore (Tuslaw) and Hayden Tarris and the Wooster duo of Emma Yoder (Triway) and Abbie Leiendecker (Wooster) captured U18 titles.
Kilgore and Tarris, the No. 1 qualifiers in the 33-team field, stopped No. 6 seed Josh Maslanich and Jacob Neubauer 439-374 in the two-game Baker System title match.
Each team rolled five qualifying games before the field was cut to the top eight for the match-play finals, During the championship round, teams competed in a two-game, Baker System format in single elimination.
Tarris (1,074) and Kilgore (1,055) were 1-3 individually during qualifying, finishing on top with 2,129, 20 pins ahead of the second-place Triway duo of Chad Harper and Aeron Meshew.
In the girls 18U division, Yoder and Leiendecker, who were the No. 4 seed with 1,772, defeated No. 3 seed Delaney Rossette and Payton Hartgrove 380-320 for the win.
No. 1 qualifiers Brenna Hartzler and Madison Strouse (1,938) fell to Yoder and Leiendecker during the semifinals 379-341.
Hartgrove was the individual qualifying leader with 1,014, three pins ahead of Hartzler.
Other winners:
- In the boys 15U division, the Ashland duo of Max Oaken and Landon Dreibelbis, the No. 2 seed, captured honors with a 463-371 win over No. 4 seed Carson Shroyer ad Aidan Furukawa. Quinn Dean was the top qualifier with 1,165, while Dean and Riley Speer were the top team qualifiers with 2,211.
- Gracie Dunne and Lily Strouse topped the girls 15U, defeating Kaitlyn Greenaway (Boardman) and Madison Perrine (Green) 402-281 in the title match. Greenaway and Perrine topped qualifying with 1,679, and Greenaway was the top individual with 888.
