CANTON — Adam Kutz admitted the past few months have been “hit and miss” while bowling during his four leagues.
“It’s been a struggle for a while,” said Kutz, a 32-year-old Louisville right-hander. “Fridays, I’ve bowled OK. But everything else has been hit and miss.”
And it’s his Friday league, the Liberty Vending league at Eastbury Bowling Center, where Kutz recorded his second milestone series of the season, finishing with 845. He also shot 832 in the fall at AMF Hall of Fame Lanes.
His ball of choice at Eastbury was the 900 Global Zen which, Kutz admits, has produced the right results at Eastbury.
“It’s been the right ball there for me for a while,” said Kutz, a pricing administrator at Goodyear. “In practice, it felt good and I really didn’t have to do a whole lot.“
Kutz had games of 267, 278 and his 16th career 300 game for his latest milestone. He also owns 10 career 800 series, with the 845 being his career high.
He had the front six strikes to begin Game 1, left a 10-pin, and then struck to the second ball in the 10th when he left another 10-pin. He failed to convert that one.
In Game 2, he went off again with the front nine strikes before leaving a 4-pin. He converted the spare, and then left a 10-pin on his final ball.
He finished the night with 12 in a row.
“I didn’t have to move a lot. But, in the four-man league, two of our teammates (Alex Lincoln, Don Sprout) were at the state high school tournament and our subs couldn’t bowl,” Kutz said. “So it was just me and Rob (Weary) and we only had six on the pair.”
Kutz also bowls two leagues at AMF Hall of Fame and in the Northeast Ohio Travel League.
“The season started off good, but it’s been a little rough lately,” Kutz said. “We won the Sunday league, but I didn’t bowl great. I bowled good in the rolloff, and that helped a bit.
“Travel league I got off to a good start and we won the first half so we’re looking forward to the rolloff. I really can’t complain with two honor scores this season.”
There were other 300s thrown in the league that night and recently, a pair of 800s the same night.
“Everyone has been scoring on Fridays. When you’re averaging 230 and you are only 10th in the league, what are you going to do?” Kutz said.
One milestone didn’t hurt.
