Bowling briefs: Hall of Fame Summer Series returns; HDP holds Wonder Twins event

TOURNAMENTS: Hall of Fame Series returns

CANTON — The second annual Hall of Fame Summer Series, sponsored by Jimbo’s Landscaping, will return to AMF Hall of Fame Lanes beginning May 25, with practice beginning at 7 p.m. — a change from last season.

Tournaments will be held every two weeks at 7 p.m. Thursdays into early August.

The initial pattern of the sport oil shot series will be the 2023 U.S. Open Pattern No. 1. Entry fee for each event is $45, with bowlers rolling four qualifying games before the field is cut to the top five for a stepladder finals.

There will be six tournaments in all on different patterns, with each week’s winner plus the next 20 in the Series points standings qualifying for the end of summer finale. Points are awarded based on each week’s placing in the standings.

The oil pattern for the finale will be the oil pattern that produced the lowest average scoring during the six previous events.

First place will pay $300, based on 50 entries, with 1-in-5 cashing weekly. A total of $6 per entry goes into the finale prize fund..

HDP: Champions award during Hit Dem Pockets unique Wonder Twin event

WICKLIFFE — Champions were honored in overall team and overall combined singles during the Hit Dem Pockets Wonder Twin Ultimate Team Challenge on Saturday and Sunday at Wickliffe Lanes.

Under the unique handicap event format, 32 teams competed for points in team, doubles and singles determined by their placements in each event.

The overall team champion was Grenwis, with 731.5 combined points. Members of the winning team included Tyler Meredith, Jim Grenwis, Jason Bowles and Dell Ray, with each claiming $1,000 for the victory.

Team Vernon, consisting of Lexi Cloud, Mackenzie Oiesky, Antonio Vernon and Ryan Ashby, took second with 633.5.

Bowles captured both the scratch combined sand scratch handicap ingles titles with 2,310 total pinfall, shooting 801 during the team event, with Dean Vargo taking second after shooting 851 during the team event with 2,265. Dylan Rinella was third (2,235) in handicap singles, and Josh Truman took third in scratch combined (2,261).

In doubles, Terry Wade and Mike King topped the field with 1,510, with Terry Arnold and William Harrison (1,467) taking second and Grenwls and Bowls finishing third (1,446).
