Amateur Sports Hall of Fame welcomes inductees in bowling, disc golf, fumbleball

CANTON — The Greater Canton Amateur Sports Hall of Fame welcomed 13 new members in three separate classes during a special induction ceremony and dinner Sunday at the DoubleTree by Hilton.

New hall of fame classes were inducted in bowling, disc golf and fumbleball during the event, which had over 200 in attendance.

New bowling hall of famers included the late David M. Skelley (whose honor was accepted by his brother, Tom), Mark Herdlick, Joseph C. Altimore III, Jim Fellows and Carol J. Pittson in the bowling achievement category for the Stark County USBC Hall of Fame; and James V. Norch in the recognition of contribution category.

The inaugural class for the disc golf hall, one of nine amateur halls of fame now enshrined at the facility, located at 1414 Market Ave. N in Canton, included Bill Griffith, Dan Kilgore and the late Mark Kratzer, whose honor was accepted by his wife, Robin.

The Greater Stark County Fumbleball Association’s inductee class included outstanding players Frank Cassidy, Don Dasco, Bill Ridge and Brian S. Winn, with Ridge also receiving the umpire’s award.

Jeff Thornberry handled the introduction for the inaugural disc golf class, followed by Kim Cooksey presenting fumbleball inductees. Sue Vukmanovich and Bill Snier presented the six bowling hall of famers.

Jose Rante, GCASHOF president who was primarily responsible to putting the event in motion, and Snier served as masters of ceremonies for the evening.
