Bowling notebook: Bowling HOF enshrinement set Aug. 17; Ohio bowlers shine at Senior Games; Stark USBC adds director, sets golf outing

CANTON — Seven new members will join an elite group as the Stark County USBC Hall of Fame and Canton Amateur Sports Hall of Fame will hold their annual enshrinement ceremonies at 6 p.m. Aug. 17 at the downtown DoubleTree by Hilton.

The seven inductees in bowling for 2025 are in three categories, including:

The bowling hall of famers will be enshrined that evening along with four new members of the Stark County Fumbleball Hall of Fame. Those inductees include Mitch Raebel, Richard Kleinhenz, Jason Norch and Tom Tender.

Also to be inducted into the Stark County Disc Golf Hall of Fame that evening will be Chris Pellegrino.

OHIOANS AT SENIOR GAMES

DES MOINES, Iowa — Thousand of athletes participated during the 2025 National Senior Games, presented by Humana, which ran July 24 to Aug. 4, with several Ohioans turning in top performances in bowling.

The games had competition in singles, doubles, mixed doubles and team for men and women, with events contested at Great Escape and Air Lanes. 

Overall, Ohio has claimed 298 total medals, standing second to only Florida’s s 358, including 107 gold medals.

Parma’s Rick Parschen was a dominant figure in the ages 70-74 category during the games, taking gold in singles (695); bronze in mixed doubles (with Julie Molenaur, 1,248); gold in men’s team (with Barberton’s Terry Ware, Edward Luckett and Thomas Lutz at 2,533), with Parschen shooting 742 including his record fourth 300 game overall during Senior Games competition (he has 166 overall); and gold in men’s doubles (with Ware again, 1,293) to give him three golds overall, with Ware adding a pair.

Canton’s Mary Eibel also won silver in women’s doubles (with Sandra Johnson, 969) and in singles (556) in the women’s 70-74 division.

Competition was held in eight divisions for men and women from ages 50 and older. States were not placed with individuals to add to this report.

STARK USBC BOARD ADDS MEMBER; GOLF OUTING SET

CANTON — The Stark County USBC board of directors and officers have approved the addition of former Jackson High School bowling standout and North Canton Hoover girls coach Alicia Yocono to fill a vacant seat on the board.

The action was approved by the board last week. Yocono also bowled for Walsh University and currently is seeking her Masters of Business Administration degree at the college.

In addition, the Stark County USBC will be holding its second annual Golf Fundraiser at 9 a.m. Sept. 7 at Meadowlake Golf & Swim Club in Canton.

Entry fee is $320 per team, with a limit of 18 teams for the event. Entry fees include raffles, prizes and lunch and dinner with the format being four-person scramble. See information below:
