Alley in the Valley will go up for auction Sept. 6

EAST SPARTA — When Bryce Langford first purchased the former East Sparta Recreation lanes in October 2022, he said, “We’re trying to do something to give people something to do.”

The hope will be ending for the couple in the near future. The now named Alley in the Valley, an eight-lane bowling center, is going up for auction at 1 p.m. Sept. 6. Dutton Auctioneers is handling the sale.

The auction will include real estate, equipment, inventory, business and its liquor license.

In a Facebook statement, the family posted: “As you may know the difficult decision to sell/auction the Alley has been made due to special  circumstances. … Looking for a new owner … We will continue to operate until a new owner is found and takes over.”

According to Dutton’s auction announcement: “This rural bowling alley is an ideal destination for individuals, families, and groups looking to enjoy a memorable bowling experience without breaking the bank. The event schedule is full through the fall! With a generous selection of lanes and fantastic amenities, you’ll have a blast while staying well within your budget! … With endless potential and a prime location, this property is an excellent investment for any savvy buyer looking to make a smart investment.”

Bryce Langford said Friday that family situations led to the decision to move on from the center.

“My wife got a new job in the Columbus area and actually has been living down there during the week and coming back on weekends,” Langford said. “And my son-in-law is going to be continuing his veterinary studies at Ohio State so him and my daughter also will be heading there.”

Langford said the food and liquor licenses go along with the sale.

“It is something we felt we had to do,” Langford said.

The center is continuing its weekend hours until the auction, with parties going on as scheduled.
