Northwestern Ohio and Muskingum came home with titles during the Ohio Bowling Conference’s Event 1 at Columbus Square Bowling Palace in Columbus.
Northwestern Ohio captured the men’s title with 7,038 total pinfall, with Muskingum taking second (6,967) and Robert Morris finishing third (6,955). Walsh University finished fourth overall with 6,808.
Robert Morris’ Matthew Hanson and James Meyer finished 1-2 in the men’s individual standings with 1,097 and 1,002, respectively, for their five-game blocks. They were the lone players to average over 200. Ohio State’s David Hart was third with 998.
Evan Thro led Muskingum with 984 to finish fifth.
In the women’s division, Muskingum took the title with 6,658, with Wright State taking second (6,461) and Ohio State finishing third (6,305). Wash was fifth with 6,050.
Rio Grande’s Sydney Dickson took individual honors with 1,014, with Muskingum’s Kaylee Hauck (979) and Tayler Clark (968) finishing second and third, respectively. Walsh’s Hannah Deford was fourth with 966.
Northwester Ohio’s men’s junior varsity also captured the junior varsity tourney, with Wright State’s women topping that JV division.
The individual event drew 19 men’s teams and 18 women’s teams. The second OBC event is set for Oct. 21, also at the Columbus Square Bowling Palace.

OTHER COLLEGE ACTION
The 2023-2024 United States Bowling Congress Collegiate season continued last weekend with the first Tier I event of the season as the 52nd edition of the Midwest Collegiate Championships was held in Wauwatosa, Wis. (men), and Milwaukee (women).
The St. Ambrose men and Wisconsin-Whitewater women would be the last teams standing in this year’s event, as 47 varsity teams in the men’s division and 35 in the women’s division competed over six individual games and 16 Baker games before the top eight in each division advanced to a match-play bracket. All rounds of match play would be in the best-of-three Baker format.
In the men’s division, the top three included Webber International (9,877), St. Ambrose (9,809) and Concordia (9,782), while the final spot in the bracket would go to Marian-Wisconsin (9,304).
Webber swept Marian-Wisconsin, and No. 4 Saint Xavier beat out No. 5 Wisconsin-Whitewater (2-0) to meet in the semifinals, while the other semifinal match featured Concordia, after taking down No. 6 Mount Mercy (2-1), and St. Ambrose, who swept No. 7 Lawrence Tech.
Saint Xavier then swept Webber, while St. Ambrose took down Concordia (2-1) to set the final match.
St. Ambrose took Game 1, 217-211, against Saint Xavier before finishing Game 2 tied at 166. The Fighting Bees took home the victory, 224-179, in Game 3. This is the fifth Tier I victory for St. Ambrose in the last four seasons.
In the individual standings, Saint Xavier’s Michael Harmon would lead the field with games of 238, 248, 198, 224, 216 and 279 for a 1,403 total.
Harmon was joined on the all-tournament team by Marian-Wisconsin’s Ryan Dreikosen (1,397), Saint Xavier’s Bobby Habetler (1,387), Culver-Stockton’s Keaten Bieri (1,387) and Webber International’s AJ Wolstenholme, the 2023 Intercollegiate Singles Championships winner (1,370).
In the women’s division, the top three qualifiers were Webber International (9,072), Mount Mercy (8,716) and Wisconsin-Whitewater (8,682), with St. Ambrose (8,438) taking the eighth and final spot in the bracket.
Wisconsin-Whitewater took down No. 6 Judson (2-0) and Mount Mercy (2-1), while Webber had beaten St. Ambrose (2-1) and No. 4 Coe (2-1) to set up the final match.
Wisconsin-Whitewater collected the win in two games (178-159, 192-155) for their first title of the season.
Webber’s Linda Himes would overcome a slow start to lead all women with a 1,320 total, rolling games of 188, 158, 262, 255, 226 and 231. Joining Himes in the top five were William Penn’s Gabriella Evans (1,236) and Caitlin Radliff (1,226), Webber’s Aliyah Alleyne (1,224) and Davenport’s Carly Snyder (1,212).
In other collegiate action:
* At the Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Conference (SWIBC) – Event 1 and 2 in Fort Worth, Texas, the Oklahoma Christian men and Louisiana Tech women swept the weekend, taking home two wins each. A pair of Wooster graduates — sisters Allie and Abbie Leiendecker — averaged 229 and 207, respectively, during qualifying with Allie rolling a 747 series over her first three matches.
* At the Mercyhurst Invitational in Erie, Pa., the Niagara women took home the victory over top-seeded Wilmington in five games
