NORTH CANTON — Chelsea Dorosky’s only regret was that her career-high series could have been better.
Of course, leaving “the most solid 10-pin of my life” could have made the night at Park Centre Lanes even sweeter.
The 23-year-old Louisville right-hander and former McKinley High School player had games of 246, 299 and 196 for a career-high 741. She then followed that up less than two weeks later with a 702 in the Pizza Oven Classic league also at Park Centre.
“Up to that point, I’ve had some high points and some low points as anyone would,” said Dorosky, employed as an assistant manager at Dunkin’ in Louisville. “But I think I’ve finally found a groove the past couple of weeks. I’ve been shooting 650 or higher so I can’t complain.”
Dorosky, who bowls full-time in three leagues and subs in another, had the last five strikes in Game 1 during her big series in the Foxfire Lounge Mixed league. Then came the run in Game 2.
“I threw the ball well in Game 1. That one is kind of a blur, but I know I missed one key spare, It might have been a split of some type,” said Dorosky, whose previous high series was in the 730s.
“The 11th ball (in Game 2) was the one I didn’t think I was going to strike on. I pulled it inside and it went 60 feet down the lane. But it must have caught a spot out there because it stayed there. Thank goodness it didn’t move.”
But then came the “wrap 10” on her final ball.
“I felt my heart pounding a little bit. But I’m telling myself, ‘just go up there and bowl,’ ” said Dorosky, who has a pair of 289s unsanctioned and a 279 sanctioned as her previous high games.
“But when I went up there for the 12th ball my legs felt like Jello.”
Game 3 was partially a carry over from her near-miss in Game 2.
“I was still shaking a little bit. The jitters started in the ninth frame and then carried over,” Dorosky said.
She failed to convert a 2-4-5-8 spare and also chopped a 6-10 in the third game. “I just couldn’t put any strikes together,” Dorosky added.
Dorosky’s averages range from 190 at Eastbury to 203 at Park Centre. She also is using a new Hammer Envy ball.
“Frank (Testa, Ten Back Pro Shop) picked it out for me and I love it,” Dorosky said. “I’ve had it for a couple of weeks and it works great.”
She also teamed up with former McKinley two-handed righty Andrew Fraleigh to earn a top-four finish in the College Bowl Tournaments doubles event recently at Park Centre.
“I think we were the youngest team there,” added Dorosky, whose partner also was just 23. “I’m pretty happy with those results.”
