Tourney report: Fellows, Barstow-Norris team win weekend events

CANTON — No. 4 seed Jim Fellows earned his second College Bowl Tournaments singles title with a 256-224 win over Tim Voytko during Saturday’s championship match at Eastbury Bowling Center.

Fellows, a 56-year-old Perry Township left-hander, stopped right-hander Brandon Clifford (279-234) and Akron right-hander Rob Sample (238-201) to reach the title match.

Voytko, a 42-year-old Lakewood right-hander who throws without his thumb in the ball and is the 2022 John Klonowski Memorial Singles champion, stopped Massillon right-hander Brian Ball (232-2190 and Alliance right-hander Kevin Schott (246-225).

Perry Township right-hander Alex Lincoln was the top qualifier, shooting 990 for four games, six pins ahead of Schott. Lincoln, Schott and Clifford each had 300 games.

The cut to single-game match play was Sample at 929, 13 pins ahead of Bob Bures. The final cash spot went to Keith Zeigler with 915, just two pins ahead of Andrew Fraleigh and three ahead of Vincent Ludwig.

First place was worth $465.

SPINS AKRON DOUBLES

AKRON — Top-seeded Chase Barstow and Jordan Norris combined to stop No. 3 seed Melissa and Tim Voytko during the title match of Sunday’s Spins Bowl-Akron Scratch Doubles at Spins Bowl.

Barstow, a Louisville two-handed righty, shot 279 in the title match and Norris had 228 to claim the victory. The former shot 1,021 during the four-game qualifier (a 255.25 average) and Norris, a Plain Township two-handed righty, added 946 (236.5). The pair, former Walsh University teammates, also captured a College Bowl doubles event in April at Eastbury.

Melissa Voytko averaged 244.5 during qualifying to Tim’s 225.5.

First-place paid $920, with $500 added, in the 14-team field.

The team of Vincent Ludwig and Scott McIntire, the No. 2 seed, finished third, with Brian Easterly and Kyle Dunne taking fourth. The cut was at 1,815 for four games, with Esterle and Dunne finishing just five pins ahead of Ray Cook and Viktor Varner (1,810).
