H.S. bowling: Tournament results; match results for Jan. 29

Newark and Benjamin Logan captured titles during Saturday’s Muskingum University High School Invitational at Park Lanes in Heath.

This marked the third Muskingum event of the season, with others being held in Canton and Coshocton.

The field of 18 boys and 14 girls teams bowled three regular and three Baker System games during the qualifying round before the field was cut to the top eight in the respective divisions for best-of-three Baker match play rounds by seed.

In the boys division, No. 4 seeded Logan stopped No. 2 seed Perry 2-1 in the title match, winning the deciding Game 3 201-188. The Panthers had tied the match with a 183-172 win in Game 2.

Centerville was the qualifying leader on the 2024 OHSAA sectional-district oil pattern with 3,616 total pinfall, followed by Perry (3,328), Jonathan Alder (3,321) and Benjamin Logan (3,223). Heath was the cut line with 2,897, finishing 37 pins ahead of Bucyrus (2,860).

Individually, Alder’s Drew Damron turned in the high series with 730, followed by Centerville’s Zach Hartley with 671 and Perry’s Nick Goebeler and Riverside’s Sam King with 656. Centerville’s Casey Lippincott rounded out the five-man all-tourney team with 653.

Perry stopped No. 7 Mansfield (2-1) and Dublin (2-0) to reach the title match. Logan stopped Centerville 2-0 in the semifinals.

In the girls division, No. 1-seeded Newark defeated No. 3 seed Fairport Harbor Harding 2-0 (154-142, 191-163) to claim the title.

Newark led the tournament with 2,909 total pinfall, followed by Perry (2,811), Fairport Harding (2,770) and Centerville (2,761). Heath earned the final match-play spot with 2,347, 16 pins ahead of New Lexington.

Individually, Newark’s Jade Gabor topped the field with 620, followed by Centerville’s Julie Beavers (556), Fairport Harding’s MacKenzie Pilny (543), Perry’s Ami King (535) and Newark’s Makayla Adams (531).
