H.S. report: Several scholarships available; two-handed coaching clinic set; postseason tourney announced; match results from Jan. 30-31

STARK COUNTY USBC, SCHSBC ANNOUNCE SCHOLARSHIPS

The Stark County USBC and the Stark County High School Bowling Conference have several college scholarship opportunities available for area high school bowlers.

The conference scholarship applications are due March 31, while the Stark County USBC applications are due Feb. 28.

The Stark USBC scholarship opportunities for Stark County USBC-sanctioned bowlers only, include:

  • Memorial Scholarship for performance and excellence in the sport of bowling. There are two $1,000 scholarships available.
  • Presidents Scholarship for leadership and sportsmanship within the Stark County USBC. There is one $1,000 scholarship available.
  • SCUSBC Scholarship for members of the Stark County High School Bowling Conference. Recipient must be a player within the Stark County Conference. One $1,000 scholarship available.
  • Massillon Scholarship. Recipient must be a student residing west of Perry Drive and east of the Wayne County line. Two $1,000 (one girl, one boy) scholarships are available.

In addition, the Ohio State USBC has two $3,000 scholarships available (one girl, one boy) to student-athletes with grade-point averages of 2.5 or higher, with a March 15 deadline.

The Stark County Conference also has two scholarships available this season:

  • The Tom Warner Memorial Scholarship, named in honor of the late Louisville High School bowler. One $1,500 scholarship is available to any conference bowler, boy or girl.
  • The Andy Lillo Memorial Scholarship, named in honor of a former Stark County bowler. Two $500 scholarships, one each to a boy and girl, are available to conference athletes who meet the requirements.

Applications are available at area centers, through coaches, the Stark County USBC or conference or see the Stark County USBC and SCHSBC websites and Facebook pages.

STARK USBC TO HOLD TOURNEY

CANTON — The Stark County USBC Youth Committee will be holding a “Mini Citi” tournament for junior bowlers March 16 and 17 at Park Centre Lanes in North Canton.

It will include doubles and singles competition on March 16 and a trios event on March 17. Entry forms and more information will be available through the USBC soon.

TWO-HANDED CLINIC SET FOR JULY

COLUMBUS — The RKH Coaching Group will be holding a two-handed bowling coaches clinic from noon to 6 p.m. July 6 at the Columbus Square Bowling Palace.

Topics to be covered include physical game, lane play, ball fit and layouts and mental game, with on-lane coaching practice and video analysis provided. Cost is $175.

Coaches assisting in the clinic will be USBC Gold coach and RKH coaching head Ron Hatfield; Ohio Northern University director of bowling and USBC Silver coach Jeff Robinson; PBA champion Chris Via; and USBC Silver coach Andy Parker.
